By buddy (the one who drives a civic) says that carbon fiber hoods can break and rip off the car at high speeds. I don't really beleive him. But you know I was wondering if anyone has heard of this happening? I want a carbon fiber hood. Where is the best place to get one?

Yes, it can fly up at high speeds if you don't use hood pins. You must have hood pins. I know three people that had their hood fly up and crack while on the freeway because of no hood pins. Evan (on this board) also had his fly up a few times, and the last time, the entire carbon fiber part flew off the car. Hey Evan, did you ever get that replacement hood?

The guy said that the hood broke and the pins held parts of the hood in place. I don't know if I want one now.

ok heres my deal

bought the hood almost 2 years ago was a fiberimages hood. it was great until at a show one day i forgot to latch it down and it flew up going 45, left 2 scratches.

then like a year later i thought i closed it but i didnt i guess and it flew up again this time it kinda split the layers of fiberglass and CF.. about 3 months later on Vday going 110 on the highway i guess wind got under it the right way and the top layer just shot off so fast.. i was like umm what was that..

Another thing. What would you think if you saw a car with four hood pins? I think it would be neat.

note the whole hood didnt fly off. .just the top layer.. because it was split.. check the pics

Well.. Hoods almost never brake if they are put on right. I mean I know a lot of people with CF hoods I have sold a lot as well, None that i have seen have been broke. I tell everyone to use hood pins or the new hood locks. I know one guy that got a hood from me last summer he has an ecilpse with no pins or locks and his is holding up fine. I wouldnt risk it tho. I would have pins in mine if i wanted a cf hood. I like my back one just fine tho. As for as price I can get you one somewhat cheap let me know if anyone wants one... lata
