i want to paint the interior of my car and i wanted to use auto paint and i wanted to use something like a satin black (i think that would match the stock black, not sure, but if you know what would, please let me know), but i was wondering how much i would need to paint all the interior pieces, lower dash, door panels, by the console, rear quater panels, piece around the little windows, a pillars, around the rear glass and the trunk. I have access to a gun and air compressor which is why i was considering using the auto paint. How much do you think the paint would cost to paint all that, and what tips should i use for painting? Any help is appreciated. TIA

since its for your interior, i would suggest to get some DUPONT paint for acrylics.

I've heard that using auto paint on the interior looks really good. I'm interested in the same thing. Good luck on finding the info.

Actually, auto paint doesn't flex very wheel, and since the interior pieces are soft, you should use special paints for vinyl etc. I think SEM makes special paint for that. I wouldn't use auto paint unless you are talking about painting hard plastic things like the center vents.

all hard plastics can be painted with auto paint. Just clean them real good and buy a scothbrite pad from the auto body supply store to scuff them up. Than clean and paint.

YOu probably would only need a quart of paint. Probably $20-30. Clear coat would be extra if you want shine, or just get a single stage paint.

oops I didn't read that he was talking about painting plastic stuff. I thought he meant the dash and soft parts of the door for some reason. Ya just use auto paint in a regular gun, and do thin layers. You have to do the clear if it's a two-stage paint or it will look very dull without the clear. My car was butt ugly before they shot the clear. It looked like a totally different color. Or like ian said, get a cheap single stage paint that doesn't need clear over it. I'd use a two-stage since the clear also protects the paint though.

A few weeks ago I was bored so I shot the peice that surrounds the radio with some single stage and it looks so sweet. It came out almost smoth even though the peice was rough. I am redoing all the peices in a single stage paint because it looks so good.

i have the gs door panels, so would the paint work on those? they arent going into my car for a while because i dont have money to do the swap, so would it be ok if i gave them time to cure?

if they are vinyl panels, i don't think it will work. vinyl is too flexible for auto paint. For you vinyl dash and doors, use sems paint. For hard plastics, use auto paint.
