17334, inner door panels Posted by Cresquin, Mar-16-02 09:31 PM
my RS came with hard plastic inner door panels. I think the feel of them makes the car kinda feel like a kiddie toy and i want to change the feel to that of the dash. There are three ways I can accomplish this: 1) get a beige or black vinyl (doors are beige stock and dash is black) and somehow make it fit all the grooves and indents of the panel.
2) use a dense spray foam to soften the places I want softened then sand to fit, then spray with some sort of rubber sealant, then spray with color
3) buy beige GS door panels for way too much.
What I think I am going to do is cover them in the vinyl, there may be some cutting needed to get the vent section ont so it can be a different color though. if I use just vinyl and fabric (with a spray adhesive) is there some sort of thin paddin I can use under the vinyl to make it even more plush or will the vinyl alone likely provide roughly the same feel as the dash? any tips from you customizer types?

I'll get pics later, the RS doors are pretty much one piece HARD beige ('cause that's my interir color) plastic. i haven't taken them off to see if the section around the door handle (usually a different color than most of the door) is actually attached or is just made out of the same material. I guess I'l find out when I install the power locks.
(edit)
OOOOOOHHHHH I think I just understood your post. you are thinking of glassing your doors, but since mine are already hard you are willing to swap? That'd be cool! now, I don't have power locks or windows so that part on my car has no switches, I guess we could swap all but that part, then paint to match.
also, I use my car as a daily driver so having no door panels for a few days isn't really an option or me (my wife would shit a brick).
my icq is 1.4.5.6.6.4.9
