i'm thinking about getting the gsx painted there. i've seen the one in hamilton crank out some decent paint jobs and i'm probably gonna keep the car for another year.

NEVER go there if you want a good job. All those places don't even use real paint. They usually use a single stage enamel paint that doesn't have any clear coat over it. It's all one stage, not dual stage. I've seen a few horrible paint jobs there...they always come out with orange peel and fish eye too. It's really nasty, don't get it done there. They usually only charge 300 to 500 for a full paint job. The materials for a PPG (brand) paint job alone are 600 bucks usually without any labor.

$600 ??? Where do you get that?? I just paid 280 for a gallon of PPG DBU Viper yellow, a 2 quarts of reducer and a gallon of Matrix systems Clear (more that PPG clear) with catalyst.

Just wondering where you got such an outrageous price from?

That is not an outrageous price. Basikstylz paid about 600 for his paint, and so did Icjeclipse (House of Kolour). PPG clear alone is 135 for a gallon. Then each quart of paint is anywhere from 35 to 80 dollars depending on color. Then the pearl is around 75 to 100. Then you have to add in the special tape you use to pull back some of the moldings, paper, etc etc. Reducer is also not that cheap. When it all adds up, it's usually at least 500 to 600. House of Kolour ends up around 700 (I think that's what ian paid for his materials). Usually you need 3 to 4 quarts of base. Maybe you got a really good deal on the paint. WIth the clear alone being 135, you're saying you got a GALLON of paint, and 2 quarts of reducer for only 150? That's a really good deal then...

Yeah i paid more than $700. Gallon on HOK Burple Base, Gallon on HOK Burple Kandy, gallon of PPG clear, Gallon of HOK reducer.

PPG spectra blue mica (toyota celica color) was going to be about $600 for everything.

yeah I dun remember what I bought but I do know my paint... is300 yellow was $75 a quart.. and thats cuz yellow is expensive. then theres reducer and hardener and blah blah blah and thats just the paint, not the sealer or the clear. also basic pearls are about $25 a jar. the pearl I got is about $75 a jar. I ended up paying around 600 for paint, clear, sealer, all the reducer, hardener, pearl, some special tapes, and paper to use to cover the car. but I know the clear alone with all the necesities to paint it were 200ish.

Wow your shop must have good hook ups. We paint at least 4 cars a week, and get ZERO discount. We just get the paint from a local paint shop. In order to get a major discount, you have to buy in HUGE bulk directly from PPG. Does your local paint shop give you the discount, or do you get it direct from PPG? Paint usually lasts a long time though, since most colors are a mix of many different paints, so I see most cans sitting on the paint rack machine for a pretty long time. My color used a mix of 4 different colors, and 2 pearls, but I can't say exactly how much my paint cost because it was mixed at the body shop, not prebought in a certain color.

Hey wazzup! The best thing I would recommend is to stay the hell away from maaco! If you have some time I would suggest doing the body work yourself. Dents are easy to fix and you can do all of the sanding and prep work yourself in less than a weekend. You can get it taped and sprayed at a good shop for 300-400 bucks. Call a couple shops in your area and ask them about it. I had a jeep cherokee before my mitsu and they sprayed that thing for $350. It looked sweet when it was done.
