I started painting all my interior panels. On the 90% of the the job came out awesome. But on the panels that fit under the steering wheel and the glove box the paint didn't coat. First of all after washing the panels I put down 2 coats of primer, both stuck very nicely. However when I applied the paint it kind of flowed away (only happened on these panels and only in certain spots). It ended up finally coating decently but now I have a build up around those areas.

My question to the paint experts is how can i fix this? I was thinking sand it down a bit and reapply the topcoat. Will this help?
Should i reapply more primer, or would the primer, paint, primer, paint screw it up.

I painted my interior pieces with regular basecoat clearcoat. Looks awsome. My advise to you is to sand the existing paint down with lik 220 then wet sand with 400 and repaint. That way there are no sanding scratches. EEEWWWWWW they look like shit.

Hey Ian, it comes out real good with real auto paint (it matches just like the exterior of your car). Just scuff it up with ScotchBrite wet sand, and paint it like you would the rest of the car...

would that work w/ vinyl, or just plastic?

I think mainly plastic. Like the center vents, bezel, etc. I don't think auto paint flexes enough for vinyl, so you need to use that special vinyl paint.

this might sound stupid but what parts are vinyl and what parts are plastic on the dash and doors?

I know exactly what you are saying, this is what I did with out any sanding: I washed everything ral good with soap and water and then I got a hair drier, blow on the piece with the hair drier for a good 20 seconds and then spray the paint then then blow on it again and your paint will stick with no problems. Worked perfectly for me. hope it helps..

just make sure you clean it really well. I used dishwahing liquid and water for mine then dried the pieces off really good. I primered it and painted with no probs. I would do what they said with the sandpaper and repaint it.
