I had the same problem.
In the back of the button there is a tab (right on top). When I saw back I mean the part hidden by the front of the dash. Right where it meets the dash on top there is a tab you push down - feel for it, its pretty much the whole top of the button (the button system itself is 4 or 5 inches long.) Push the tab down with a screw driver then push the whole thing towards you. Should just pop out then.

Ok, I'll give it a shot...the write-up wasn't exactly clear on which way to push/pull the damn thing...Besides, I'm trying to destroy as little as possible getting this blue light in here. I appreciate your help, should look really nice after I do the gauges too, maybe get a brushed aluminum set of inserts, somethin along those lines.

Yeah, I can't get the damn a/c button to pop out of there...maybe I'm not pushing the tab down far enough? Anyways, it won't budge and I can't get at the light from below, either...

Crappy dude - I wanna help but its so hard to explain!!
Here's what the picture of the whole unit looks like to help.
->
The tab is the thing above the green stuff - that part of the system is in the back of the dash unit. Its right on top, just give a good push with a screw driver or something. Give it time, it'll come out.

Push hard and pull towards you. The light on the other hard is a bitch to get out. I spent 20 mins tryin to get it out of there. Ended up just breaking the stock led that was in there and it came right out, then i used a can of air duster to blow out the small pieces of glass from the old LED.

yeah on a side note.. did you know there is a differnce in how that ac button works on the gs and rs models of eclipses... :-)

16126, RE: HVAC Led Install Posted by RYZCLPZ, Mar-03-02 04:16 AM
Yeah, well it isn't going ANYWHERE...How much difference is there in the RS/GS A/C button?
|
16127, RE: HVAC Led Install Posted by iamnotwhoiam, Mar-03-02 09:01 AM
well the gs models and above i imagine have two modes of use for the ac.. one for economode where the ac compressor turns on and off on a predetermined factor or whats not and then a full blast mode. on mine you push the button once and it goes in half way and the light goes orange.. thats economode and push it again and the light turns green and its full blast mode.. on the rs models, not sure if all, there is only one mode.. full blast.. where you push the button once and the light turns green..

interesting.. it must be an option at the time the car is bought. i have a 95 RS and it has the econo-mode and full blast.. and when i was helping out marcus with his hvac, his only had full blast.. but then, im not sure what model his car was.

Ya mine is a 97 GS and it only has the full blast mode. Once you push it in, it's green and on.

hehe.. another one of those weird things that can set apart our cars.. :-)
i guess it isnt an rs/gs thing.. but more of an options package.. now im curious if its possible to just switch out the switch and have it work either way or if there is something else that is part of that package..

well in my base (and i do mean base) model 95 rs i've got both...
i don't have pwidows/locks/mirrors/seats/sroof....nothging luxorious. i have the crappy center piece (not the one w/the arm rest thingy)
no fog lights/side skirts/wing hell my back seats are one piece (some fold down 1/2 n 1/2) and the shitty 4" front spk and 5.5" rear spk it had the fact. tape deck(first thing that went:)
but i do have two a/c modes light/full blast
pretty damn interresting how my extreme base model rs could have this......

It's also interesting that Ian's 95 rs has the silver under hood protection (the thing that connects to the under side of the hood). Most nt's have a black one, and only turbos have a nice silver one (but Ian's rs has a nice silver one). I think the dsm plant at normal, illinois, was really confused the first couple years, and didn't know what to put on what. So they just randomly did stuff hehee...
