15503, Questions on window tinting
Posted by ERide98, Feb-20-02 03:15 AM
What is the avg price for window tint?

Is mirrored tint or window stickers illegal? Also what is the darkest you can get away with with out being ticked by the police?

Has anyone attempted to tint themselves? If so do you have any suggestions?

Dose anyone know of a good place to get it done in minneapolis/St. Paul area?

You will have to check with the Laws in your area. They differ everywhere you go. Here in Hampton VA its 20% for Rear and 35% for the sides.

Haha, I got a ticket today for my tint. I have 20% all the way around and my ticket was for $20, but I don't give a f*ck! Just keep in mind your local laws. Fines are probably more severe where you live. If you tint to illegal levels, like me, be prepared to pay the fines. Also, get it done professionally, nothing looks worse that tint done by an amateur, with all the bubbles, bleh!

Hey Im in your area... I will be living in Monticello this summer. I paid $85 for the rear and did the side 2 by myself. The rear is hard as hell for an ametuer to do. Mirror should be legal, but call up your local police and ask them.

BTW I got to school in Wahpeton/Breckenridge

That's like 45 minutes south of me, sweet. I lucked out today actually. I got pulled over by a Highway patrol officer when I was still in town.... The normal fine I believe is $60. But, I think mirror tint on any of your front windows is totally illegal. I know a guy with a red Eclipse that has red mirror tint, he gets pulled over all the time. When the cop put that meter thing up to his window, it registered about 1%. So Mirror tint has got to be illegal on your front windows. I'm gonna start dring with my windows down more often, brrrrrrrr! hahah

Call up a local tint shop and ask about the local laws. Here in MI, any darkness of tint up to 5% is leagal on any window that is not the front drivers or front pass window. I know that mirror tint is illegal in many states because of its high reflectivity, so be ware of that. Here if you get pulled over, you get a "fix it" ticket. You have 10 days to take it off, and go show you car to get the ticket signed off, if not, then you pay the fine. If you end up paying the fine, and get pulled over again, you get an automatic 2 points on your license. Also, when you get it done, go with the metalized window film, most good tint shops should have it, this is high performance film that will not turn purple ever, and has a lifetime warrenty on it. Dont go cheap, you get what you pay for! Also, most shops will NOT do the rear hatch in one piece, since it a BITCH to do that way. Luckily, i'm cool with my tinter, and it took a long time to do it, but said he will never do it again! He's been tinting for over 15 years too.. Keep all this in mind..

How about the tint that fades from black to silver/chrome .... I think that sh*t is tight ..... man too bad you guys dont live closer to Iowa man the local tint place here has about 10 colors... and some that fade from black to a color.... all chrome and even like gold mirror finish.... A kid I know (with a focus)has some tint that is almost irredescent yelloew fade.... it looks really yellow at an angle then as you walk up and look at it directly it changes to just regular dark tint.... he said it cost him around $300 (cant remember off hand).... Im not sure what the local laws are for darkness....

Hey soldier, thats what i did. i walked into audio creations (birmingham) and told them to go as dark as legally possible. i think its like 35%, meaning 35% of the suns light comes through. it was like $150.
