15432, Roof Scoop???? Posted by AlphaAndOmega, Feb-17-02 03:35 PM
I was just wondering if they sold any kind of roof scoop from the F&F movie, it was the first time I have seen one, I don't think it would help cooling or anything, but nobody else has a scoop on their roof.

how fast does a car slow down when a dog sticks its head out of the window? .05 mph?? there would be no noticeble decrease in speed, and imo i think they look sweet.

15439, RE: Roof Scoop???? Posted by Kory, Feb-18-02 06:44 AM
guess it also looks sweet when ur all show and some lil civic Si pulls up on u and revs on u and you kno u aint got jack to back it up. I agree not everyone wants speed and that is perfectly ok if u like to loose a lot j/k... im just saying it will slow ur car down.

Purley from a physics standpoint, how would it slow your car down? Im mean really! we're talking about an opening of 1in tall by , what, 18in long? it certainly cant be any worse than racing with your windows down? If there is any concern with it doing that, just block off the opening, ala Niclipse or drill some holes in the back side at an angle for the air to escape.

15441, RE: Roof Scoop???? Posted by Niclipse, Feb-18-02 08:31 AM
doesnt slow you down, i know i know, I was slow from the beginning, but I havent noticed a difference after putting it on either. BTW, I never get fucked with on the road. People just dont try to race me. :)

Id have to agree with Kory on this one.. it looks ok, I could maybe see it benefiting you if your going auto cross.

Dude, let me just say, it will create LESS drag your average body kit. Also, what about all those people with big wings on their car? A Wing doesn't do anything for you unless you've doing over 115 mph. So a wing just sits on your car, looks pretty and makes weight. Do what you want....I love the look of the roof scoops for our car. Just get a roof scoop then put a HRC Stage 3 on and go kick someone's arse!

What in the hell are you talking about?!!
It will slow you down maybe .01 mph and wont help at all in autocross... Do you know why the rally drivers have one....? Becuase they dont have air conditioners and that forces cold air on them. I dont get your logic on how it helps auto crossers.

15447, RE: Roof Scoop !$500 dollar install and thats a friends price Posted by Jivedady63, Feb-18-02 02:13 PM
I want to get one the are like 100 dollars and they cost an additional 500 to be put on properly and not shitty 15 f-in hours labor

umm..wtf are u talkin bout? a scoop helping you in autoX?? lol, this is a joke right? well, the post is about roof scoops on cars that come with AC standard, so i guess it fits the sceme, lol ;) (jk, i jus dont care for extra scoops that do nothing)
an autox pass lasts all of 30-90 seconds. there is absoluetly NO need for any sort of additional driver cooling, especially SINCE YOU HAVE TO MAKE THE PASS WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN! obviously someone here has never been autoXing before...windows down is a rule, so when idiot A flips his car, there isnt glass all over and its easier to get the driver out of the car.
in rally and endurance racing, the driver is in smoltering hot cabin for long periods of time. cabin temps can get up to well over 100*F even on cool days, so some form of cooling is needed so the driver wont freakin pass out. there is no such need in autox where drivers are in the car for 30-90 sec with windows down.

Wow, someone actually thinks that the air going into the roof scoop actually goes into the cabin, haha. They do look awesome, though.

dont think that was aimed at me...cause we were talking about functional roof scoops on rally and endurance vehicles. not street cars who want the F&F look...

15452, RE: Roof Scoop???? Posted by Doug96GS, Feb-20-02 01:25 AM
No, I'm well aware of the fact that roof scoops on rally cars are functional. The way that it was worded, it sounded like someone (not you) thought that the scoops on ricers were functional.
