15295, Auto start on a 5 spd Posted by guest, Dec-21-01 09:04 AM
Well if u have ever read a post about this u would have seen my statement and I always said its good as long as u pay attention to ur car and know better than to leave it in gear....well today I got in my car, backed up, rememberd that I forgot somthin pulled forward and turned the car off and ran back in side to get somthing at work. well I came back out de armed the alarm and hit the auto start..... well to my surprise the car starts moving forward.... I was like SHIT!!!! so as quick as I can I grap my keys and hit the engine kill button.... to late the car had pulled forward and up the curb and the front wheels rolled back over the other edge. So know my car is sitting there on the sideskirts which are molded to the car....:-( anyways after getting the car off the curb....bout 20 mins later I realized a few things...1 the e-brake was on....2 my clutch is slipping so it should have never been able to pull forward. well the damage is as follows... front bumper....gone major rip on the mouth on the drivers side.. all the way through the fiberglass, pasanger sideskirt fiberglass cracked in half and the rear wheel well and on the bottom of the skirt in the same area.... drivers side skirt, crack in between the two vents. and lastly a crack on my drivers side fender near my vent. so all in all.... its time for a serious consideration of what I want from my car before I move on and drop tons more money into it not to mention serious hrs of labor... I am considering getting rid of the top scoop on the rear of the car. or changeing it to somthing like a mr2 scoop or a NSX scoop. my other major question is color... I am thinking silver or white.. anyone else have any opinions?

Me I'd go with Silver. Very nice color, I like the silver that has a bluish tint to it, can't think of the name I think Artic Silver Mist or something. About the scoops I dunno I don't like thoughs scoops, do you have a website I can get a better look at the scoops?

As an installer, our shop will not do any 5 spd remote starts just because of this reason. You can rig up some pin switches by your shifter to keep the remote from activating. So when its in a gear, its pushing on the pin switch, and the starter wont operate. It just takes a little imagination to hook it up, but its a great safety measure!

you should go with silver. which auto start do you have that works with a 5spd? and how much was it?

All remote starts will work with a 5 speed as long as you bypass the clutch switch. IN my case mine is fried so I can start the car without the clutch down.
But that is not recommended for reasons mentioned above. My friend had a remote starter on his five speed that made you go 1st, reverse, 1st === then you took it to neutral. It was kind of like a PIN number - after you had done this it knew you "knew" you had activated the remote start - and you were paying enough attention to do this. LED on dash told you when the PIN was accepted.

Sorry to hear about your car. That really sucks! But that is exactly why I tell everyone NOT to get remote start on a manual. You never know if a valet parking driver or even yourself might leave it in gear on accident. That's what happened when this integra at the shop hit the wall and broke a hole in it too.
I would just stick with the yellow color since you already painted the jams and put all that work into it. And personally, I would smooth out the scoops a little more, and just keep em. Unless you wanna go crazy and add some NSX vents with the widebody in the rear like a lot of hondas have now...good luck.

that totally sucks to hear man, I'll agree w/eclipse804 and keep it yellow simply because of what you already have into it.
just for reference, for a remote start on a 5 spd, use a magnetic switch on the shifter linkage to disable the remote start if in gear. you can also rig up a second shock sensor, powered up only during remote start, that will kill the R/S if any jolt other than the motor starting, is detected.

Well I don't want the yellow anymore mainly cuz of all the police attention it gets.... I can't go to any spot where people kick it or cruise or race with out being the first person pulled over so I am trying to go with a color thats just not so damn bright but is still light and looks nice. I will prolly go with a silver and a blue pearl.

Oh in that case, nothing looks cleaner than a white with purple or blue pearl. It will just glow at night if you put the right amount of pearl. And in the day it will look like a creamish blend. I would do that over the silver. Silver with blue pearl will just look like any ordinary silver, since a lot of silvers already use blue pearl. It's not as noticeable. Let us know what you pick...

That sucks bro! SHAME ON YOU!!! and to eclipse 804:<widebody in the rear like a lot of hondas have now>.... thats reason enough NOT to do it! :) when doing up a show car, keep it original. You gotta do shit thats NEVER been done before. Unfortunately thats getting harder and harder....

who ever hooked up your remote start they should have hooked one of the started disable wires to your e brake wire that way if you dont have the e brake pulled up the starter wont engauge. im a installer and ive only hooked up a few for my good freinds .that all you need to do so, if you dont have the e brake pulled up the system wont start. so to everyone else thats thinking of get a remote start make sure that the person you have hooking up the starter really know what their doing first. sorry to hear about what happened to your car.ive been installing 12 volts for about 5 in a half years so if anyone has any questions feel free to ask.

WOW! This post is old. And if you read it correctly, he DID have his e-brake pulled up.
Todd, this post was originally in the General section. One of the other moderators must have moved it......

yeah thats my point if the unit was installed corretly when the e-brake was pull it would have never tryed to start!
|
15312, RE: Auto start on a 5 spd Posted by guest, Feb-19-02 10:20 AM
so what ur saying is if the e-brake is on it wont start? well then what good is an auto start? If I have to get in the car and take my e-brake off before I can start it, then it does me no good. I dunno bout u but I always use my e-brake. but thats cuz I have a 5spd and I leave it in neutral.
