14506, question about my exterior color :sorano red Posted by guest, Feb-10-02 03:12 PM
I was at the local performance shop (Carboy) and homeboy said he'd hook me up with a stillen front for $400 +80 install. Thats a seperate issue though. My question leading into this is that he said red is one of the most difficult colors to paint. Something about a "3-layer process" color or some bs. So he was saying that painting red on a car is more expensive than most colors....ie., $400 to paint the front end, versus a green/blue car for around $200. Is he for real? You'd think since red is one of the 3 main primary colors in the spectrum that its not that much work to paint or blend, etc when I get my car painted of front end done. I am curious to see what all you paint experts think to this. he's the only one I ever heard say that in my life. Most people say red isnt hard at all, and tht black is actually the hardest color to paint a car with. hmmmmm

The only color I have heard is harder to match up is silver.

It's hard to tell from this picture but when I had my run in with the semi I went EL cheapo on the body shop due to $ reasons. They replaced the messed up front drivers side quarter panel and painted the whole side of the car. I don't know if you can tell from the pic but they don't match at all. I could really care less about looks so it doesn't bother me.

So is this guy talking a bunch of bull or what? I think he is, personally. Red has got to be the easiest color to paint. Especially fast420a's and my shade. Hey! Gimme your bumper, beeyatch! hahaha trade ya! Don't we have the same color? I think so, just my photo was taken early in the morning and the color looks off from his.
Anyone know more in detail though about these shades of red? I mean come on, my shade of red they use on thousands of makes of cars. You cant get any more plainer then color of red.

it all depends on who is mixing the paint and what kind of paint they are using... my car was half painted about two years ago cause a truck sand blasted my paint cause he didn't tie his load of gravel and dirt down with a tarp.... needless to say i could tell the difference where was painted cause the shades were off... that was the main reason i painted the whole car the same color this time..... if it's an experience guy it won't matter cause he would be able to match it up no matter what... but if you were comparing black to any color than i would say yes cause black is the only color that will match up unless you added pearls or different shit...eclipse804 can harp more on this subject....

How much on average does it cost to paint an entire car?... thats with them doing all the labor. I know it varies from shop to shop, and where you're located- but i just want to get a rough estimate of about how much it'll cost me

I have no idea if red is but i just saw a commercial on tv that Minekei was painting cars for like $200. I want to get my whole car repainted Black. Black is its original color. I have a hundred paint chips and its really pissin me off. I will do the prep work then take it in for them to paint.

To answer your question NO, red is one of the easiest colors to paint in good lighting, but there isnt a body man out there that uses "bad lighting". White...beleive it or not is a very difficult color to paint, because we use such good lighting and most paint booths are white inside its hard to see exactly what you are spraying, its hard to distinguish between flourecent lights, white walls, white overspray and a white body panel.
And as far as matching the color to the rest of your car, if you have the original paint on and the color is not faded (shouldnt be on a 2g) just give the mixer your paint code. Any mixer who has a half assed clue will be able to match it perfectly with the code.

sorry Mike, I tend to get off topic. I try to add humor to the board. Really bad humor but its humor. -Dave
