14093, Any Advice on cleaning engine parts and bay?? Posted by Slow_GSX, Feb-07-02 01:08 AM
Does anyone have any techniques and/or advice on how to thoroughly clean rusted/corroded engine parts (like that chalky white isht on aluminum parts)? Is this something I can do myself or do I need to take it to a shop or something? I bought the car used, and the previous owner obviously did not care about keeping a clean engine bay. How can I make it look icy under the hood again?

kory are u gonna reply that everytime the guy posts a question?
-I would use that "engine gunk-be-gone" spray can shit u can buy almost anywhere. One works like them all, so it doesnt really matter if u ask me. Go to a car wash with the pressure washers, and spray that gunk shit all over the engine, etc tranny but keep the water and spray shit off ur ECU and throttle body, and spark plug areas. If u need to clean those areas, just use a rag and that spray stuff on the rag. When finished, cover up ur ECU and TB, and Spark plug areas with rags or something and hose that engine bay down with the pressure washer after 10 minutes of letting that spray stuff settle in.
BE CAREFUL THOUGH! I know alot of people are gonna reply after me and say dont do it that way, but it's been the most effective way for me. The first time I did it, I did not cover up the above-mentioned areas and I was sputtering for a day or so afterwards... watch that ECU and Spark plugs!!!
good luck.

Go to the automotive section at Target and buy CD-2 ENGINE DETAILER. It has two cans, one to clean and one to shine. Trust me, it works WONDERS!
