Posted by My9t5Talon, Jan-27-02 01:18 PM
I'm getting my car painted within the next month...and my friend has a cf hood that he said I could have, but I wanted to have my car the same color all around...even painting the mirrors and the wiper blades (a dark mid-nite blue with a red pearl)...would it mess up the hood at all to sand it down and paint it...also does anyone know anyone that has their car painted a similar color with pix??? Thanx a bunch guys, ya'll are too great!!!

Painting a CF hood is like buying a red farrari and deciding you want to paint it blue. You dont mes with a CF hood. They are very nice the way they are. I would just leave it black.

You can paint it.... but its kind of a waste.... u buy CF for a reason and that reason is to say LOOK I HAVE A CF HOOD!!! if you want to paint a hood get fiberglass. besides fiberglass is lighter than CF.

Some racers paint their CF hoods because they wanna look stock, but use CF for weight reduction. YOu can paint it no prob. JUst prep it like you would any other hood...

I know that fiberglas is somewhat lighter, but I also heard that it isn't as study and strong as CF...is this true...thanx for the insight gang

Carbon fiber doesnt really look great on all cars and a lot of people who arent into the racing scene think you've got a black hood because you wrecked or someshit or that you've got some nice primer.

Anyway, If I could find a seamless carbon fiber hood (no shitty edges, no gaps, nada) I would paint it white, just make sure you got hoodpins.

Another another known factoid about CF hoods is that in many cases after buying them, you need to have them sanded down and recleared because mosquitoes eat through the resin and leave cloudy dots.

And also a lot of cf hoods come with a really ugly finish. Many are dull, so you should sand it down and shoot a layer of clear over it to look it's best.
