about 200-300 bucks.. plus u have to paint the doors still after that.. the whole door.. and u still need the popers so u can get in ur car

if your going to get them shaved u might as well get it done and have the whole car painted at once

save ya some cash

usually its about 100 a door.. its worth it.. its not that easy to do.. u usually get a line if done sloppy

A lot of shops around here charge about 400 for door handle shaving if done perfect with metal. Kinda risky in CA though because they technically can impound your car on the spot if you're caught without handles (it's required by law so that people can open your door from the outside). My friend wants to get rid of his because he doesn't wanna get caught...

I never thought about it like that. And could somebody open it if they found the "code" for the remote or whatever? And how could i find out if it is illegal in VA? thanks

I think it's illegal in all states since door handles are required by law, just like you need tailights, headlights, etc etc. Yes, if someone had a code grabber they could copy your code to open your doors (just like they can copy the code to disarm your alarm if it doesn't have code hopping). THat's not a big deal though...main issue is how strict cops are in your area.

My door handles don't have hair. No need to shave them. :P I think it's illegal in NC to do that. Safety reasons and all.

my door handles are only 3 years old almost. I guess they just haven't reached puberty yet. No hair. :P

I did it myself at a junkyard. FOund 2 celonoids from a 88 oldsmobile for power locks. Put them in the doors, removed the inside door handle assemeby as well (so no one could slimjim it), then I had switches placed on the dash. Left for driver door, Right for pass door. Then I had a hotwire under the truck so that you could connect it to jumper cables if the battery went dead so you could pop the hood and jump the truck. I also had a key switch under the driver's door. If the key was IN and turned, system was unlocked. If the key was OUT, the system was locked and the buttons wouldnt open the doors. The buttons that opened the doors were behind the cab between the bed on both sides. It was a great setup. I loved it, so I am considering doing this to my car very soon actually. I also got some springs and placed them in the bottom right of both doors to help "pop" the door out when the switches released the celenoids to open the doors. The only thing was during the winter the doors sticked alot. haha.

Total cost was $40 to do it myself. Then evan's right, you gotta paint the whole door. Also you gotta find some sheetmetal to use as a base "filler" for the missing door handles. Then you bondo up the rest to make it all match up evenly to paint over. Best benefit of doing it? At jiffy lube when the guys cant figure out how to get in the car. haah. And the best one? When you pull up to pick up your date and shes impressed that she cant get in the car, then you pull out your magic doo-hickey and the door opens for her :P
