Is it necessary to eliminat the passenger side air bag if an aftermarket wheel is put in?
if not, is there just a seperate connection for each bag or do you have to put the driver side somewhere else in the car so it doesn't go crazy??

well there has to be because i took out my steering wheel and drivers side airbag and the pass. airbage is still there; whether it works or not is a different story, lol...the srs light is always on so i dont know if its like abs where if the lights on, the abs stops working...anyway,its cool though, the only thing that sucks is that you have to manually turn off your turn signal cuz the piece that turns it off comes off woth the wheel, but you get used to it....joe

hmm i sure like to replace that gigantic stock steering wheel...but isn't there a law against taking off the airbag? ..and a hefty fine if caught right?

shouldn't be. I saw on the news that they were considering or maybe did make a car that u could disarm the bags in b/c of all those airbag fatalities that were hapenning there for a while.

I don't think it's illegal but your insurance would probally go up if your carrier knew. And as far as "taking it off and sticking it somewhere so it wouldn't go crazy..." BAD IDEA! what if you got into an accident and the thing inflated? Actually, you could put it under your seat and get "emergency ejected" in case of accident. :)

If you get pulled over and the cop wants to push the issue. cause all they have to do is look at the vin right at the winshield. If it says the car came with them and you have them removed he can fine you for it....

icedout is right.. if the car came with air bags and u remove them .. its not good.. sucks because i would really like a new wheel... they do make ones that retain the air bag but they are really ugly..
but i figure my life is more important then some wheel anyhow..

no way, i have one, and i used to be a cop, they cant tell by the vin with their computer if it had an airbag, besides they cant prove that you didnt buy it that way....its a great mod, just have to be careful...

thanks for the replies, now who wants to be the guinny pig and see if the passenger side works, i'll be your friend ;) i really don't want to eliminate the passenger side cause i'm not going to be pressuring people to wear the seat belt. Oh and by elsewhere i meant on the rear or somewhere that it won't endanger anybody (but i'll take that seat eject thing into consideration after i chop off my roof to get some cold air :)

Umm air bags require passenger seat belts to work properly. Studies have shown that the air bag can actually hurt you more than help if you don't have the seat belt on. Some newer cars, like my mom's accord, has sensors, such as if you lean to close to the side air bag, then the air bag light comes on warning you. I personally don't think having an aftermarket steering wheel is worth losing the air bag. BTW, any car newer than 92 has at LEAST a driver's side air bag by law. I think the law started before 92, but I don't remember exactly when. THen in 95 or so they made it law to have passenger side air bags too.

well i have neither. :P i got an aftermarket wheel on and totally ripped my airbag out to shed some weight? and i put black tape over my airbag light. cops don't seem to give a f@#k. and you peeps known how much the cops harrass me so i wouldn't worry about it.
