The other day I was cleaning up the trunk and decided to lift the floor panel. I noticed that my jack was all rusted so I took it out and noticed it was wet. I then took out the spare and found a big puddle of water in the trunk, I could have literally had fishes in there. Had to use a damn plastic cup and take it all out, then finish up with a towel. It's probably been accumulating there for a while but dont know exactly where its seeping from.
I do know that when I open my trunk after it has rained, some water will seep inside, Im guessing its that water eventually just going to the bottom and accumulating..if it is i can just be careful and not open my trunk right after it has rained...but if water actually seeps in when it rains even closed..then its a different story.
It hasn't rained bad in the last few weeks and i noticed it still gets wet, but not a lot. Enough that I can dry it up with a towel. I remember someone posting something like this a long time ago. Wondering what he found the problem was....

i believe that was me... and it had been some time... so far i havent had the problem anymore or havent noticed it.. but i rememeber that time when i found about a foot of water under that spare tire.. :-( im not sure what was the cause or what exactly fixed it.. but i would first recomend checking how good of a seal or condition the weather-stripping that surrounds the whole hatch area.. if its old and not sealing right that could be a probably cause... mine was in very bad shape.. and has been well worth the $50 i spent on a new one also check to be sure the drain tubes that are on both sides of the hatch area are not clogged.. if they are flush them out with something... those are my best assumptions and also what i did.

is this a common thing? i had the same problem last year. i blew a tire, lifted the floor panel and i could smell the rust and mildew from the water in the well. not really sure where it came from, but there are those plugs in the trunk that you can pop to make the water drain.. i had to do this, plugged them back up.. and havent had the problem since (altho i havent really checked under there in a while, so i dont know).

I had the same problem with water in my trunk. A fellow DSMer told me how to fix it... If you lift up the carpet and look down where the spare tire is, there is a little thing that looks like a plug of some sort. Pry the plug out (or if you're REALLY ghetto you can do like my friend did and pop it out with a broom)and let it drain. I parked up at an angle on my driveway to make this quicker, then make sure to dry it out. Pace the plug back in and you're done.

yeah... there are 3 rubber plugs in the bottom of the well.. i have left them all out that way i never have any sort of water buildup and dont see a problem doing so either... but the real question is how it got in there in the first place... just read my first post and go from there.

I had the same damm problem. I found out that the water was coming in behind the driver side tail light assy. What I did was take all the back panels out (which isn't fun) and poured some water on the side channels where the hatch sits. And there it went down behind the tailight into the car down to the spare tire area. A little clear silicon will fix it.

I had the same thing only instead of building up, some of my dynomat soaked it up and came off!!!! I haven't had it build up in a while because it hasn't rained in a while but when it starts raining, I also pop out the plug so the water can drain out while I am driving around.

I had the same problem but the water was coming up into the car under the left rear and driver side carpet. But i took it to satan and they charger me 200 bucks and they sai it just needed a new seal or something. If you can do it yourself please do it because they will just rip you off every time.

i may have a solution here. there are two drains, one on each side of the hatch under where the struts that hold the hatch up are mounted. these things get clogged all the time and when water builds up in this area it overflows into the trunk. i would bet one or both of your drains is clogged. all you have to do is take a cup of water and pour it in there. then take a hanger straighten it out and jam it in there till the water drains out. keep checking back on it tho cause they will get clogged again.

hell, why don't yall just remove the hatch and cruise down the street with some fine honies chillin in the homemade jacuzzi! LOL:)

so, we have drain plugs like a fuckin boat? Why would they make the cars like this? I have never noticed water in mine and I have been in there b4. That sucks, they oughta recall that.

all cars have the plugs.. just a precautionary in case this crap were to happen.. unfortunately, it has to happen to our cars!! bastids!
