I have a base model eclipse which does not come equipped with a tachometer, I purchased a tach and was trying figure out how or where to wire in the light so that it illuminates at night.

Wire it to a power wire that gets power when you turn on the car. I.e. ignition switch

That is not what he is asking. He needs power when dash illumination is on.
OP: tap into any power wire that is active when you have the illumination circuit active. Simple.

The closest one I know of is the dimmer switch
