It looks like I'll need to replace it on my car, as it is starting to leak a little.

The question is, for anyone who has replaced one, do they need a particular type of sealant, if at all? I can't find anything saying whether it A. doesn't need any sealant, B. you need a specific kind, or C. it comes with it.

CAPS diagram doesn't show any sealant. I'll try to remember to call my friend at the local Mitsu dealer and ask if he knows.

I checked the diagram also, and it doesn't show the usual little picture of a bottle of some kind when sealant is needed.

The weatherstrip itself looks like it will make quite a tight fit when it goes on. (I have received it but haven't installed it yet.) When I remove the old one I'll see if there is some kind of residue left behind.

The important thing for me to do is to check the condition of the sunroof's metal frame when I remove the seal, and make sure it isn't rusted to the point where it is useless.

Every time I've ever had my sunroof leak, it was never the seal, it was always one of the four drain hoses that had clogged. But if the weatherstrip looks terrible I guess replace it.

as a ####, I swapped out my whole entire sunroof assembly haha. Trim was almost new, but still leaked, I was so frustrated to learn about the drains clogging. Oh well, live and learn.

I know that it's the weatherstripping on mine that's gone bad because the water leaks out from the channel directly attached to the front underside of the glass.

Sounds like I need to check mine as well. I checked the drain hoses last summer and they were not clogged at all. Every once in awhile, after a good rainstorm, and I drive right after...take a hard turn sometimes some water will spill from that area. Must be the weather stripping.

nothing better than a nice cold bath when you're least expecting it. Especially when it lands right on your crotch before work. Yea, real nice. haha.

Yup, that's EXACTLY what happens. Turn right and get a nice cold wet spot in your lap.

At least it's not as bad as my 914. I swear that Targa is German for "Leaky"

I don't have pics(yet) but I took off the weatherstriping, cleaned up and painted the edge of the metal frame, used a little RTV around the whole thing (there is nothing like over-kill) and put the new weatherstripping on. It was very hard to get it perfect around the corners. The outside top part of the seal around the edges sticks up a little in places. I tried as best I could, and couldn't get it to sit perfectly flat.

The drains were fine and I am not getting leaking into the car. There is a little bit still around the seal with water getting between the metal and glass in the seam between them, but it is very minor, and at least the metal is now painted and not rusted. That might hold me for a little while at least.

It was kind of a big pain in the butt, at least putting the weatherstripping on the thing. The repainting was the easy part.
