104345, front bumper cover
Posted by Nemo, Jan-31-10 10:29 AM
Hi all. Time to replace my front bumper cover. I didn't come up with anything in the search so I'll guess it's pretty straight forward.

Just in case: Any little tricks or words of advice?

Or just a lot of little bolts? lmao

Thanks!

Here is a good guide by azdave on how to remove the front bumper. Installation is just the reverse of removal.

bump?

Hate to be lame but I was going to start my cover and discovered I've torn some of the mounting away from the lower left 3 bolts.

It's like a metal mounting strip that contains the bolt holes for the cover.

Does anyone know where I'm going from here? Is this something I will be able to repair or is it something that has to be replaced? Is there an official name for what I'm talking about?

I did this when I overshot a parking block and mindlessly backed off of it.

Thanks again for the help and tips!

About 15-30 minute job to remove. The Haynes manuel helps.

You might need to custom up your own mounts. I have on my upper right side of the bumper. Piece of good metal will do it.

That's what I was wondering, thanks. Guess I'll figure it out when I pull the cover.

Are you talking about the half moon L shaped piece at the bottom of the bumper Nemo? Its like 3.5-4 feet long?

You can get that from the dealer. Dont have the PN handy, and its not in CAPS.

It should be like 30 bucks last time I bought one a year ago.

Does that thing even serve a purpose? I stopped using it when I installed the Hahn FMIC. I didnt want the metal contacting the bottom of the intercooler and scratching it.

This piece?

It's there to connect the bottom of the bumper to the air ducting. It also helps to keep the bottom of the bumper from sagging.

yes if that part goes all the way to the end. It would help keep sag out of the unit-help retain the shape.

Its purpose is to let the bumper keep its shape :)

Figured as much. I never really had an issue with any warping, and all my ducting has been removed to make room for the intercooler.

Yeah it's the bottom of the bumper cover. It's the last 3 or 4 bottom bolts.
