103865, HVAC Switch Blower cut-out on Full power. Help? Posted by Ryan97EclipseRS, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
Hey guys, tried searching for about 30 mins for a solution so here we go: My A/C works fine on powers 1-3 but when i turn it to 4 the blower cuts out (all HVAC panel lights still on mind you, and compressor still engaged). Just curious if there is a common fix for this? TIA!

Position 4 on the switch is probably burnt out. I can't remember if the resistor is replacable or if you just need a new working HVAC control panel.
Edit: online parts sources show a blower motor switch available seperately.

18:39:09 ‹Ryan97EclipseRS› Terry you ever heard of the 4th power on the AC cutting the blower motor out? 06/08/2009 18:39:26 ‹Star_Turbo_Talon› yeah 06/08/2009 18:39:31 ‹Star_Turbo_Talon› common issue really 06/08/2009 18:40:10 ‹Star_Turbo_Talon› alot of the time its either the switch or the resistor in the heating duct 06/08/2009 18:40:24 ‹Star_Turbo_Talon› the resistor is what gives the motor different speeds 06/08/2009 18:40:47 ‹Ryan97EclipseRS› Resistor located near the blower motor under the glovebox? 06/08/2009 18:41:05 ‹Star_Turbo_Talon› if i recall its right next to it 06/08/2009 18:41:10 ‹Ryan97EclipseRS› I had a switch go out on my old RS and none of the powers worked, first time I've seen this 06/08/2009 18:41:45 ‹Star_Turbo_Talon› once you pull it out, it like 3 resistors. slowest speed is the largest resistor 06/08/2009 18:41:49 ‹Ryan97EclipseRS› okay let's pray that's it because when I had to replace the HVAC controls I remember it was a sweaty day and I finished with worse cuts on my hands than when I pulled the motor lol 06/08/2009 18:41:58 ‹Star_Turbo_Talon› the resistors get smaller and smaller 06/08/2009 18:42:20 ‹Ryan97EclipseRS› okay, they mounted to the blower motor or is it that little box lookin thing next to it? 06/08/2009 18:42:37 ‹Star_Turbo_Talon› it will be separate in the duct 06/08/2009 18:42:53 ‹Star_Turbo_Talon› let me check the manual real quick 06/08/2009 18:43:06 ‹Ryan97EclipseRS› IN the duct? IE: pull blower motor and look inside? I'm electrically retarded btw 06/08/2009 18:43:09 ‹Ryan97EclipseRS› appreciate it 06/08/2009 18:44:07 ‹Star_Turbo_Talon› no in the plastic duct you will see a connecter........the part the connector is plugged into has 2 screws holding a plate into the duct.....the resistors are on the otherside of the plate 06/08/2009 18:44:49 ‹Star_Turbo_Talon› ok pull the glove box out......look behind it 06/08/2009 18:44:55 ‹Ryan97EclipseRS› okay 06/08/2009 18:45:13 ‹420agreenvilleSC› shouldnt he test the sides of each resistor to make sure thats the problem? 06/08/2009 18:45:17 ‹Star_Turbo_Talon› it will be to the left of the blower motor assy 06/08/2009 18:45:22 ‹Ryan97EclipseRS› oh I think I remember this, it sits inside the duct and it's like a tiny box shaped thing you remove? 06/08/2009 18:45:32 ‹Star_Turbo_Talon› once he takes it out he can test the resistor assy 06/08/2009 18:45:40 ‹Star_Turbo_Talon› yes ryan 06/08/2009 18:45:52 ‹Star_Turbo_Talon› hold on a sec 06/08/2009 18:45:56 ‹Ryan97EclipseRS› it's been years since I've been under there thanks 06/08/2009 18:45:57 ‹Ryan97EclipseRS› okay 06/08/2009 18:46:15 ‹420agreenvilleSC› terry = my mother fucking hero 06/08/2009 18:47:09 ‹Ryan97EclipseRS› I don't have a voltmeter so I'll prolly just rifle the thing at it and pray 06/08/2009 18:48:01 ‹Star_Turbo_Talon› do you have a test light? 06/08/2009 18:48:19 ‹Ryan97EclipseRS› nope, every tool I owned was stolen about 3 months ago. Lucky me 06/08/2009 18:48:40 ‹Star_Turbo_Talon› well fuck how are you going to test if its the resistor or Switch 06/08/2009 18:48:48 ‹420agreenvilleSC› terry = shootout 06/08/2009 18:48:53 ‹Star_Turbo_Talon› you can test it all right at that spot 06/08/2009 18:49:10 ‹Ryan97EclipseRS› I'm gunna just rifle a resistor to it probably because if it's the switch it's staying broken for awhile 06/08/2009 18:49:14 ‹Star_Turbo_Talon› if you want.....I can pull up mitchell on demand and tell you wire colors 06/08/2009 18:49:33 ‹Star_Turbo_Talon› do you have a spare duct resistor? 06/08/2009 18:49:34 ‹420agreenvilleSC› mitchell on demand.... 06/08/2009 18:49:42 ‹Ryan97EclipseRS› junkyard charged me somethin like $75 for my HVAC controls for my RS 2 years ago. I'll burn for awhile heh 06/08/2009 18:49:44 ‹420agreenvilleSC› what is that... \ 06/08/2009 18:50:01 ‹Ryan97EclipseRS› no, but I'll find one 06/08/2009 18:50:04 ‹Star_Turbo_Talon› speed 4 prolly doesnt have any resistor, its prolly stright through wire 06/08/2009 18:50:26 ‹Star_Turbo_Talon› remember.......more resistance means slower blower motor 06/08/2009 18:50:31 ‹Ryan97EclipseRS› hopefully Dave will have one from a parts car from az2gnt if need be 06/08/2009 18:50:46 ‹Star_Turbo_Talon› he prolly does.....hold on a sec 06/08/2009 18:54:13 ‹420agreenvilleSC› i dont tongue balls 06/08/2009 18:56:20 ‹Ryan97EclipseRS› leaving chat open but gunna go remove the glovebox, brb 06/08/2009 18:56:34 ‹Star_Turbo_Talon› bad news ryan......our 4th speed doesnt go through the resistor 06/08/2009 18:56:40 ‹Star_Turbo_Talon› its direct from the switch 06/08/2009 18:56:45 ‹Star_Turbo_Talon› you have a bad switch 06/08/2009 18:57:13 ‹Star_Turbo_Talon› if you want to try anyway.......the resistor is right behind the glovebox in the middle 06/08/2009 18:57:36 ‹Star_Turbo_Talon› only a 4 wire resistor...... 06/08/2009 18:57:50 ‹Star_Turbo_Talon› means 3 speeds and 4th is direct from the switch 06/08/2009 18:59:03 ‹Star_Turbo_Talon› when i tell people to wait.....why dont they listen
