103691, Two wheels to choose, which one should I go with Posted by whtclipse98, Jun-26-09 02:24 AM
I've got a white eclipse and I was looking at getting a new set of rims. I have two choices I was looking at and needed some help. The first ones I was going to stick with black but I can get them in white. The second ones I was looking at either silver or gunmetal. 17 inch cause I already have tires for them but I am just not sure which ones to get.
Choice Number 1: Tenzo DC6

or Choice Number 2: 5Zigen GN+ Pro Racer
![]()
I tried to get them as small as I could. TIA

I vote for choice #2, those 5 Zigen look nice.

#2
kinda reminds me of Volk TE37's and those are just dead sexy
and black with a colored/chrome lip is sooooo overplayed

I currently have a set of white concept pros with a polished lip and its all messed up. I dinged one and I have been looking at others. I have wanted the 5Zigen wheels for a long time now but I found the black ones and thought they would look cool on my car. I was gonna photo chop it but I don't have a photo shop program.

I like the second choice also. If the first was all black I would suggest them.

Nope. MachV has the 5Zigen FN01R-C's not the GN+ Pro Racer. And thanks again. I'm gonna get the 5Zigen's in the next couple of weeks. I'll post pics of the before and after when I get them in and on.

I vote for #2 also....what width and offset will you be getting? I'm in the market for 17s also but can't decide on width and offset.

I like #1, but I've learned my lesson - never buy on looks. Rather, go for the lightest weight wheel in your budget. It's probably one of the biggest factors outside of the engine bay that affects overall performance.

I was gonna get 17x7.5 but I wanna do the 4 piston VR4 brake upgrade. I can just get an aftermarket kit later on. As far as the offset goes, I was gonna go with a 35 for choice 2. Atleast that is was it listed on the ones I am looking at.
As far as the weight goes the Tenzo's are 17.8 lbs and the 5Zigen are 20 lbs.

I strongly agree and would also add width as well... my wheels are 16x8 and weigh 13lbs, that's pretty good. You also have to remember you get the added inch or so on all four tires, so more traction. Now you've already got your tires, so this point is m00t, but I digress...
...I don't like large diameter tires, adverses acceleration; the only reason (outside of show) for a larger rim is to fit bigger brakes. It's like watching some SUV drive down the road with some gawdy rims, and itty-bitty, tennie-wennie, lil-microscopic brakes somewhere in the vastness that is the air inside the rim.
Sorry for the rant, but I felt like venting :) - J

Based off looks I would go with 2, unless your car is red or black.

I am pretty content with the GSX calipers I upgraded to....for now. They do the job. I am added some Cross drilled rotors along with SSBL. The tires I have a 205/40/17. I have been running those ever since I put aftermarket wheels on it.
I laugh at the guys when they used to come into my work every month asking for new brakes. They would run 24's and such and wear their brakes out. I kept telling them they needed to put bigger brakes on their cars but they would never listen.
