Hey guys. I'm at work and just realized my brake lights are stuck on. I'm guessing it's the switch for the pedal. I don't have the time to go outside and check it out yet being that I already used my lunch and i don't get off till 6. I need to be able to get it fixxed before i drive home. I live 3 cities away from my job and can't afford a ticket. I pulled the fuse to save the battery. I just need to know where it's located, how much they cost, and how to tell if it's the switch or the relay. Thanks alot guys! I appreciate ANY help!

Thanks anyway, I figured it out. Our cars have the most retarded design for the brake switch. The switch is pushed by the brake pedal when it is disengaged. Theres a piece of plastic that looks like a screw that goes through the brake pedal arm to hit the switch. I dont know why the metal on the pedal arm wasn't good enough to push the switch, but the DSM engineers figured it would be better to have plastic on plastic. So they put a hole in the metal and put a plastic plug in there. Well the plastic plug broke off so the switch arm went through the hole in the metal, thus activating the brake lights. So i grabbed a screw i had laying around and put it in the hole, did some adjusting, and hit the road. Simplicity is bliss.

Had that same BS on a Toyota. Good job.

The switch is right underneath the pedal. Check that first, maybe it's simply stuck. As much as I've messed with the tails, I've never touched the relay (i didn't even know we had one.) In a scramble, you can remove another relay from your fuse box, and substitute it for the breaking before your ride home.

I have had this problem also, I just stuck a nut and bolt in the hole and adjusted the actual switch back alittle.

X2 agreed on the dumb design!

Almost all brake lamp switches are the same. Its a push rod design...how else would you expect it to work?

I just don't see the need for the plastic plug on the pedal arm. Why cant the pedal arm just push the switch??

same thing happened to mine. i duct taped a penny in place. same thing happened on my brother's accord. it's a fucking retarded design. why would you use a tiny bit of plastic with a HOLE in the arm just big enough to allow the switch to pass through in the even that the plastic thingy breaks.

It is a common problem and almost all imported cars I have seen. I fixed a Sentra when I as working at Advance that had that problem, along with my dad's Accord, which was on his clutch pedal and had two, along with my friends Nissan. All it is is a little rubber grommet that after time, breaks apart. I have used plastic grommets to fix the problem but anything that will cover that hole works great. It is a horrible design I agree.

The same thing happened on my clutch pedal a few years back. took me like a week to figure it out and one day it just came to me to check for that. So I used some body molding tape and a nickle and held up great. LOL.

i've found it more convenient to just disable the clutch switch. pushing in the clutch on startup is a little redundant if you're already in neutral. scary when you forget you're in gear though. =p

i taught the G/F to drive stick on my car and she never had a problem remembering to either be in neutral or push in the clutch on startup either.
