10326, Aftermarket Sunroof? Posted by 97_ESi, Dec-06-01 08:58 AM
Well, I really want a sunroof but the Talons only had one in the TSi!!!
Does anyone have one (aftermarket) and how well does it work?? I heard lots of people say they leak? Also whats a reasonable price to pay for one + install???
Thanks, Mike.

Dude your better off geting a GS roof and replaceing your roof with that one. I don't know if you can do that, but also aftermarket ones look like ass because they sit up higher than the roof line.

my factory sun roof is starting to rattle and sometimes it won't close all the way (motor is kinda f*cked)...it maybe my imagination but there seems to be body flex to because the roof isn't fixed (this is compared to a 1G with no sunroof) but even after all that crap, i can't possibly imagine not having my sun roof. So if you can get a aftermarket one, do it. it kicks ass

The dealer installed an aftermarket sunroof into my car. I dont have the little siding cover thingy though, thats the only downside, but the glass supposedly gets darker in direct sunlight to make up for that. I dont think it does that too well, but I do love it. My sunroof does sit a little bit higher than the stock one, but its not noticeable. Look at my pic or go to my site to see more, but I would say go for it.

Oh yeah, the only problems I have had with leaking is when my dumb ass forgot to close it all the way, I had water EVERYWHERE. I was so mad at myself for that shit. I do know a lot of people here complain about rattling and leaking etc from their stock sunroofs and I have no such problems

Mine has never leaked as well.
Costs about $600 for aftermarket sunroof.

There are no problems with an aftermarket sunroofs. I had one put into my TSi, and I'm quite happy with it. Just make sure you find a good installer, so your headliner doesn't end up being mutilated.
I have the WebastoHollandia Stratos 300 Large installed. Been through rain, sun, snow -- no leaks so far.
Only way of leaking is if you leave the roof open.
And the only problem is that you won't have the sliding sunshade, like you see in the stock sunroof.
BTW, the stock sunroof sucks as it will start rattling and creaking.

Alright thanks for the help guys.
I'll start/keep saving for a sunroof too - I really like 'em.
I would get it installed by a place called Ziebart 3M Trimline. Probably the best company in my city. They installed my tint, did an awesome job plus gave me a lifetime warranty so anytime I want I can get them to reapply new tint no matter what!

i went to ziebart for my Esi few week back. I got the cheap, but big one like 36 inches across. Its ony popup, and removeable, so I just take the whole glass off. Its not hard to take the glass off, but obviously not as conveniant as htiting a switch. but, it only cost $225. from ziebart, and has a warranty.

Wow I CAN'T stand not having the sliding thing to block the sun. It's really distracting driving with the sun coming from above hitting your eyes, if it's at a certain angle. I hardly ever use my factory sunroof. Or at least I never leave it all the way open. I only move it so it goes up 2 inches, and leave the sliding plastic thing as closed as possible to block out the sun. I dunno, maybe it's just me, but I can't stand driving with sun hitting my eyes. It also makes it hard to see out my limo tinted rear windows...

You said onlt Tsi models have sunroofs?
Maybe I have a special ESi then, cause my car car with one stock. I have an esi, i think i got the best package. I got the infintiy sound, cd/tape, cruise, power everything, etc. Anyone else here with an ESi who has a sunroof stock?

wo0t! me and my friend used to cruise around in his jetta with the sun roof always open, never bothered us

Sometimes it gets a little rough when the sunroof is open, but for the most part its not a problem. If it is as bad as you say it is with the stock one (when not using the cover) maybe my glass does work then, cuz even when its noon it doesnt get that bad.
|
10343, RE: Aftermarket Sunroof? Posted by eclipse804, Dec-09-01 11:22 AM
Maybe it's also because of my limo tint. The inside of my car is usually really dark, and if I open the sunroof, then the front part gets really bright. But the rear of the car is still dark, making it really hard to see out the rear window. Also, I can see a reflection of my sunroof in the rear window when it's open.

Hmmm.... I think all TSi's had it and it was probably an extra option on the ESi then.

10345, RE: Aftermarket Sunroof? Posted by Super20G, Dec-13-01 05:37 PM
why don't you just tint the aftermarket sunroof pretty good so sun is not a big problem anymore.

I dont think you can tint sunroof glass. I forgot why, but thats what I was told in the forum before
