103171, anyone removed the stock manual window crank?

From the search, it seems that when people do the the power window mod to stock crank windows, they leave that crank on (some kits come with a little cover for the knob.)

I have some power windows from another eclipse that I want to put on my RS, this way I don't have to get a loud and slow ebay window kit. I'd like to just swap the manual crank with the power window mechanism. Swapping the entire door is not an option. I don't know how difficult this will be. There is so little working room in that door, and I'll be screwed if the mechanism was put in before the door skin was added in the factory.

I'm actually fine with the crank windows... but I want the topshop CF door panels soon :9

I swapped mine to power. Used the same door too.

Just take the window out, undo the manual one, and replace with the power.

Its not too bad.

You actually need to take the window out? Do you have a quick write up? My hands don't fit in that door panel ;)

No write up, I didnt use one.

And yes, the window needs to come out to remove the lift.

I guess you could undo the bolts that secure the window to the lift, put the window up, secure it somehow, then lower the lift and swap.

Its most likely easier to remove the window ;)

Its not too bad, my hands arent small. Just takes time! You can swap to power locks at that time too. Easier once everything is removed!

Send stangmurdera a PM if you need the parts, he is the one that I bought my kit from.

Yeah it's not as bad as you think. It's been awhile since I done mine, but I don't remember taking the glass out. I just unbolted the window from the regulator, pulled the window up and stuck a screwdriver through an empty hole near the top for it to rest on. The power regulator doesn't use all the same bolt holes the manual one does, I think two were different but they're already drilled from the factory to accept both :)

Thanks guys. What about the wiring? Do manual window cars have harnesses already there that will connect to the power window?

You need the door harness, and it clips in at the end of the door, onto the body.

Other than that, the chassis is all wired up for them!

Use a long screwdriver to pop the clip for the door harness.

You need a relay that goes under the drivers side dash Power Window Conversion Information.

There is also a relay behind the radio, IIRC its the one all the way to the left, thats for your locks. If you could also take a picture of this for me, id like to add it to the wiki info.

I bought all my stuff from Stangmurdera, so if you dont have it all yet, he knows exactly what parts are needed!

Thanks again. Didn't see the wiki on this subject! If I do this, I'll be sure to add some pics and write up to it

I already have the parts for the conversion from a 95GS donor car. I'm about to sell that car, and have been pondering if I should switch the window mechanisms with the 99rs. Sparco seats have made rolling the passenger side window a inconvenience

I can imagine, but the side bolsters holding your ass in during hard driving is soooo nice
