I have a red RS with three grey primer spots on my left side. I'd like to spot paint them until I put my bumper and hood on in the late Spring.

Like I said the primer is grey. It was there when I bought it. The bumper I got is black primered as will be the hood when I pick it up. (CertiFit-$112.00) Should I primer them grey first before installing or leave them black? I'm going to repaint the whole car red again in the Summer.

Also, is Duplicolor (saw that in another post) a factory spray can or what?

Duplicolor is paint that matches factory colors. Some people have bad experiences with it, but I have had nothing but good. Although, prepping goes a long way, as well as warming the can with warm water before you spray.

GRM uses Duplicolor wheel paint on alot of their cheap project cars and they have had nothing but good experiences.

Reprimer your Certifit hood. Friend of mine bought a hood from them, and while they are spot on for fitment and looks, the primer is basically to get them before the body shop does. The primer will fall off, etch etc and leave a rusty surface. He just put his on without painting and 6mos later its rust colored.

People need to quit using rattle cans on their cars.

Put some real primer and paint on the car and its parts.

I agree for the most part, Mike. I was just going to use the rattle can as a temporary fix till I can afford a real paint job. Thay gray primer on red is getting hard to look at, lol. I'll probably spend a grand on paint this summer because our Macco or One Day Paint Centers $249 specials in Ca. absolutely suck. I have a private paint shop that my local Mitsu dealer uses.

Fuck that, ill do it will rattle cans and do it right, it will just as good.

Why not get some white primer and tint it red for now? That would be a better temp fix then rattle can.

Tim, as in parts I meant, bumpers, fenders, etc. Not brackets. lol

It's all in the prep work. I resprayed my fender with a rattle can cause the clear was failing. Nobody's EVER noticed a difference. However, I know how to blend with a spray gun, so i used that techinque and buffed the edges out. Looks damn good for a rattle can.
My center taillight I did when I had access to HVLP guns tho.

Hope this works...trying to post what I'm looking at...know nothing about painting but have no access to any guns. Want to rattle can til the pro paint this Summer.

Oh I agree for body parts.

But for little stuff I use the Duplicolor Acid Etch primer. Been a year now and still looks new.

Yes, warming the can helps the paint to spray more evenly.
