Anyone ever made one or tried to put one in a 2g? It would kinda be nice to have the air inside filtered to keep the interior and dash clean. I searched, but found nothing, it's late, maybe I missed something.

I know that when I change the cabin filter in the subaru it makes a nice difference. maybe next time I'm at the junkyard and I come across a car with the dash ripped out I'll look at the system to see if one could be put on.

Ya, I have one in my other car and it totally makes a diff. I want one in my Eclipse though, just because I like it better than my other, newer, car still :)

No. There is no in cabin air filter.

I can confirm this. This morning I started my car, turned on the heat, and friggin snow came out of the vents.. :|

we know that. this is a discussion about whether we could retrofit one into the system

If you really want to retrofit one it can be done. Just not worth it.

1) Pull the console out.
2) Disconnect the A/C lines at the firewall.
3) Remove the condenser inside the car.
4) Throw an air filter inside the condenser housing.
5) Reinstall.
6) Recharge A/C.

You will need another set of hands to reinstall the dash. You can have everything out and reinstalled in a day. (8 hours)

the idea really would be to make something that is servicable without tearing the whole dash out every year to change the filter. perhaps even finding exactly where the intake for the system is routed and fabbing up a box to put the filter where its accessible. So far I haven't needed to remove the dash on my car to see if that's feasable or not

It's not really feasible.

Unless you can make something that fits under the cowl.

I was kinda thinkin that route, sorta like VW/Audi cabin filters

i know the evo IX's have a in cabin filter. wished they had put one in the VIII. it'd be cool for sure. i hate turning on my heat just to smell whatever or have dust blown all over the place.

I'm looking at the heater blower in Haynes book for our 2g. It could be possible to fab up a plastic holder in front of the air cabin filter on side the Joint duct facing the heat vents without catching the filter on fire. You would have to measure/size the filter you need. This duct and the heater blower is behind the glove box and you'll have to remove the box entirely to get to it.

We dont have one in our cars, it would be nice but with the time involved I would rather do another mod, unless you are stripping and building ground up.
