Hey guys I've seen something I like and now I HAVE to ask. I recently rebuilt my engine, and in doing so I was using Corbin's guide. I saw he shaved the letters off his valve cover. Djtrickee did it, too. But anyways, to my question... HOW?

Grind it off or what? that's the only thing I can think of that could work.

If I'm not mistakin, they both used the 420a neon valve covers because they come from the factory with no writing on there. You can find them on ebay or local junkyard. I'm sure DJ will be cutting in this thread and he can tell you anything you need to know.

eh, either buy a neon VC (DOHC of course) or the other way iv heard is to take a belt sander to the OEM one. that way its flatter...and you can do a pretty long section at once versus a die grinder or something. youll have to work with varying grits to get it nice and smooth

What did you use for the lettering? It looks almost like a dry transfer that's been clearcoated. If so, what clearcoat did you use?

if you have access to machine shop tools a vertical mill or CNC mill will take them right off quickly

It is all engine enamel (black, silver, and clear). I just came up with a design on the computer and had a graphics shop cut it out of vinyl. That gave me a mask I could paint over. It required very little touch-up after the mask was removed. I'm happy with it.

if you use a neon VC, the spark plug holes will be slightly off. thus making it almost impossible to remove a spark plug or do a compression test.

Yes they are slightly off, but I've never had any problems doing either of those things...
maybe it was User error? lol.

hey CORBIN how, if at all, did u remove the original black that was on the valve cover or did u just wash the valve cover up and jsut painted over the black

Use aircraft paint remover. Great stuff and it's like 7 bucks a can. Just put it on and the original paint MELTS off.
