102513, Stock seats and wearing a helmet Posted by wickedtalon, Oct-02-06 06:33 AM
Does anyone else have a problem wearing a helmet and hitting the ceiling? If I wear a helmet at the track my head is touching the ceiling the entire time even when I'm slumped down. It sucks.
I have the cloth seats in the 95 Talon that I race and I have leather seats in the 99 Eclipse. I have more headroom in the 99. Are the leather seats actually lower than cloth seats or does it have something to do with the year of the car? I need to do something because I'm getting warned for not wearing a helmet when I race.

0r just take the jump to aftermarket seats, i mean i am rocking the Tenzo R seats, and those bitches are so comfterable i dont even move in my seat, and its much lower, im 6 foot 3, before my head always hit, now im low and comfterable... personally i dont find the stock seats very comfterable, i dont know about leather, but for cloth i dont find them comfterable, just my .02 cents

my head just barely touches and I'm only 5'8, I imagine you're taller than me so that must be uncomfortable, you can either cut the brackets or get some aftermarket, in which case you may have to cut the brackets anyways.

You know that is a better idea infact, did you know shaq had a custom ferari made for him, the only one that was a convertable, so that he could fit in it... why dont you give mitsu a call, maybe they can work you out a deal

You ^^^ do realize they stoped making these cars about 8 yrs ago, so CUSTOM making a eclipse with a chopped of roof is just plain "silly" to say the least :)
Just race is a Spyder! then the you can just drop the top! :7

I guess I'll modify the seat bracket. I'm 6'2.

The sunroof cuts about 3" of headroom.
I'm 6' and just barely hit the sunroof with a helmet on. I learned to drive with the seat adjusted more leg-forward, shoulders back to compensate.
Also make sure the rear of the seat is adjusted all the way down.

yes the leather seats are lower the motor that adjust it can adjust the seat in 4 directions, so you can go to a height that feels like your driving a truck and one where it feels like your driving a lowered car in seconds :)
made it easier to heal and toe for me when I got my leather seat. I'm 5' 10" and I don't have any problems wearing a helmet.

The power seats go lower? First I've heard of that.
But my seat lowering mod will definitely help. If you're that tall and have the sunroof, that'll be tough. If you're seriously into racing, maybe see if you can get sunroof guts removed, fix the glass permanently and get a non-sunroof headliner. You'll save weight, too!
Or maybe look into having a 'Gurney bump' installed:
