SharpHID.com had a winter sale, $80 shipped for 35W HID kits. 55W was like $120 shipped. I just got the 8000K set yesterday, Holy shit I love them. There is NOTHING you cant see at night. Mine are white with a hint of blue. You will probably need to adjust your headlights though. The 2gb headlights actually have a very nice cutoff line. So if you point them down a little, you should keep stray light out of other drivers eyes.

Yes, 10K will be quite blue. I would never get anything over 6K since the higher the color temp of the bulb the lower the lumens output will be.

DDM tuning sells a nice digital HID kit for $62 delivered. I've used three of them since last fall for fog/driving light installs with no issues.

These are the HID's that install into your factory housings correct? I remember asking some time ago and everyone told me not to both and instead I should buy a 300 factory kit from a mercedes and retrofit them into my housings....needless to say I have better things to do with my time.

You guys are happy with the light output? Is it worth the extra money or labor? How expensive are the bulbs if you need to replace one?

I was told the higher the size, (6000k, 8000k) the hotter the bulb will get and anythign above 8000k stood a real good chance of damaging your housings, is that true?

Yeah these ones you just plug into your harness and put in the housings. But bcause of some polarity issue on eclipses, you have to unplug the bulb to ballast connection and turn it 180* to reverse the polarity and make them work.

I only have the 35W kitt and I am VERY happy with the light output. Its also easy to control where it goes with even the stock housings. I got my kit from SharpHID.com, they have lifetime replacement on bulbs and such. And even if it doesnt cover them, its only like $35 for new bulbs. Ive driven with my lights on for hours at a time and the bulbs/ballasts were barely warm, so I know at least the 35W kit will not damage the housings.

Wow thats nice. You have used these before huh, are they decent quality? Thinking maybe I will pick these up and do the 55w upgrade for an extra 15 bucks.

I saw some vids of your car on youtube. The remote start/delayed HID lighting thing was pretty awesome. Thats an amazingly clean 2g you have there.

I just read this on the DDM site.

"Our 55w HID kits are 40% brighter than the standard 35w kits. The 55W system ballasts are about 1 cm longer than the 35W ballasts. 55w kits tend to wash out some of the color of the HID bulb due to the light output( for example, a 55w 8000k will look similar in color to a 35w 6000k kit)."

Ok, now I have a question for you guys. I want to get a set of HIDs for my high beams too. So I can drive with the low beams to not blind people, and still get the amazing distance of these bulbs with the high beams. Should I get 35W for those also, or bump up to a 55W kit?
102652, RE: Cheap HID's
Posted by 2GNT_95eclipse, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
if your just going to use them for the highbeams, go for the 55w kit
102725, RE: Cheap HID's

ok i got the package yesterday and i made sure to take some pics.

when it arrived those were the goodies inside^^

everything came all bubble wrapped^

when your installing the bulbs make sure that you cur a hole in the little saucer of pain and doom as i call it^

when the bulbs are put in and the dishes are tightened down, pull the little grommet out until its flush^

after the ballasts are mounted and everything is installed i tried to turn on the HID's and nothing worked!!!! I was like WTF? So I uninstalled, re-installed and uninstalled again thinking i was doing something wrong. i looked online and i found out from DSMtuners.com that mitsu fucked up on the polarity of the light plugs when our cars were manufactured. i swapped the polarity on the plugs and installed the kit for the 3rd time and they finally worked. this is the final result

the headlight housings have a nice cutoff line and there a big difference from stock

i would have posted more final pics but it actually started raining out here in SoCal

Nice. I was actually very suprised at the 2gb headlight cutoff line. Id just fine tune your headlight aim to get the best out of them and keep them out of peoples eyes. What did you end up using to get the whole in the cover? I havent gotten around to that yet.
102727, RE: Cheap HID's
Posted by 740 turbo brick, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
And on a side note, I just spent the rest of my paycheck on a 55w 8000k high beam kit.
102729, RE: Cheap HID's

High beams are generally a bad idea. The way that HID bulbs work is the ballast steps up the voltage a lot when you first turn the lights on. Somewhere around the 23kV range. That is why when you see someone first turn HIDs on they are really bright and flicker. After a few seconds the voltage drops. It will stress the bulbs and ballast if you are turning the beams on and off a lot.

Posted by 740 turbo brick, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
I figured as such. But I live out in the sticks and very rarely pass a car out there. So I should be able to leave them on for periods of time.

What exactly is the k in that voltage? Does that equal like 23,000 volts or something? I heard it was outrageously high.
102731, RE: Cheap HID's
Posted by freelancefool, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
Yes, the startup voltage to get the salt that is in the bulb to gas out requires about 23000 volts. It's a low amperage so it won't kill you, but it will hurt.

i used a 1" spade bit then used a Metal De-Buring tool i hade in the shop to make the edges a nice even taper with no sharp edges. looks real clean (eventhough its covered by the HiD wire grommet)

Have any of you ever tried installing one of these HID kits on a set of ebay projector headlights? I know AZDave did it but he took the whole projector assembly apart and retrofitted a factory HID kit from another car. I have some projectors with the clear lens and want to know if it's worth installing one of these kits in them or if the shape of the projector lights will just drown out the HID light output.

Posted by 740 turbo brick, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
I cant remember where I saw it but I heard the projector housings for our cars make the HIDs pretty much useless. The beam was more scattered than with the stock housings, and the light output was terrible. That was all Ive heard though, maybe it was a fluke or a bad set of headlights or even bulbs. Id do some more digging.

the projector housings are pretty useless to begin with. the beam pattern is so narrow that they don't do much good at all, HID or regular bulbs. Unless you retrofit some OEM projectors from like a BMW or something like AzDave did.

I agree. I bought some aftermarket projector lights when I still had my 2G, they sucked. Maybe there are better ones on the market today, but I still think that the stock 97-99 housings are probably the best you can get.

I just picked up the 5000k conversion kit for the H7 from here
http://www.vvme.com/product/detail-20023.html

4300k seemed too yellow, 6000k seemed too blue, but that's just my taste I guess. They sell them all the way up to 15000k, which must be such a ricer look.

$81 shipped. I remember the days when HID conversion used to be $300+

i put them in and they look awsome. i they would look even better with the halo lights, my stock lights are dingy. here is the item on ebay. they are really nice.

Holy shit.. I just installed my 55w high beam kit. They make my 35w lows look like chicken shit. They are so rediculously bright. Im also very glad I went 35w low because this surely would kill peoples eyes. Im ecstatic about the light output though. Cant wait to try them out tonight.
