So while my engine is being rebuilt at the shop I snagged a few items to paint and jazz up the engine bay a bit. I used Duplicolor high heat spray paint, resistent up to 1200*. Then I layed down a clear coat from Duplicolor that can withstand up to 500*. Just showing what it looks like incase anyone wants to save some bucks and DIY instead of paying for powdercoating.

Valve Cover

IC Piping (Notice the BOV)


Mirror (The sun got to both of them but I couldn't get the paint to stop running on them)

It's little touches like that which make all the difference in the world. If you've got your intake manifolds handy, you can use that 1200* paint on them as well. I suspect the turbo manifold might get upwards of 1200*, so give it some serious thought before you paint that, but I've used it on my header and intake manifold and it's held up well for a couple years.

Well I was going to do the intake manifold but decided against it because I didn't want to disassemble it.

Now I just need to find something to get the spray paint off of my garage floor.

Paint stripper should do the trick. Walmart's got it, advanced has it. It's cheap and it eats powdercoat like a fat girl tearing down pork lo mien at the china buffet. Should get that crap off your floor no problem.

On parts that can handle it, like your valve cover, I have found that placing the part in an oven at 300 deg while the paint is still wet for about a half hour creates a much stronger and better looking finish. I found a local shop that was doing this and charging people for powdercoating. Colors are usually more vibrant if you don't try to use the clear on top.

use the "direct link" that imageshack gives you instead of the thumbnail ones. makes sure to resize if they are too big. Looks good :thumbsup
