I have a '98 Eclipse RS and I have to have the windows down and the front defrosters on full fan to even remotely see in rainy weather.

Has anyone had this problem before or is this what it is supposed to do?

Is my fan going bad?

In rainy weather I dont have either of that. Flip the wipers on and I'm good. :D

Easiest way to check if the fan is going bad, is stick you hand up there and see if any air is coming out! :p

Nah, Jason wasn't hating on you. He just didn't understand the question. Just need a little more info. Does your heat blow out air, both top (meaning from the dashboard at your face) and bottom? Do you feel any air coming out of the defrost? Has your car sat in a field for any length of time (like mine that I am doing a mouse chase on :wallbash )?

I guess what we want to determine first is if your fan is blowing air.

I know you have not had this question asked before (hence the new thread).

My fan is working, I get air out of every vent. The first little bubble for the fan settings is VERY weak; even when I have the fan set on full blast and only on the front window, it is not as "Full blast" as one would want or expect.

This might just be normal because our window wipers only have 3 settings.


I was going to pull the dash and test the fan to see what is up, so I was just checking if anyone knew if our fans were just weak by nature.

full power mine's fairly strong. are you getting any actual heat? defrosters work better with fresh air selected as well. if I have the defrost on recirculate they'll work ok for a bit then everything gets foggy again.

From what I can understand, you have moisture in your car/AC system. My car sat in a junk yard for I don't know how many years, until I bought it in 2004. For the first few weeks EVERY MORNING, and when ever I let the car sit locked for a few hours it would fog up inside. Pick a sunny day, and roll down the windows or open the doors.

I had to do this again since I just sound proofed my interior and had my carpet washed.

I have this same problem on my 96 GS.... Fan blows hard and hot but if it is raining I can say goodbye to seeing out my front window... I got some of that Rain-X Anti Fog stuff and it helps a lot but it’s not a permanent fix...
