Before i went turbo, my exhaust was load and low enough to vibrate everything in my car. After the turbo, it's quieted down a good bit, even with the addition of the 2.5 inch downpipe.
Make sure it's actually your hatch that is rattling, and not the muffler or tip contacting your rear bumper cover. I had this problem for a while, but mysteriously it went away after the muffler shop welded in my 2.5 in hi-flow cat.. about a year ago
-DarkOne I'm so bad, i should be in detention.

102311, solution for struts/supports Posted by JasonESi_T, Feb-28-01 03:38 PM
My hatch struts/supports do not work anymore! Is there a fix?
Just replace the supports - it's not hard. They are available at JC Whitney, NAPA, and Canadian Tire. The respective shops can look up the correct part number for you.
Read Tom Stangl's http://www.vfaq.com/mods/hatchstruts.htmlVFAQ on the subject for everything you need to know about how to do it. (Hint: the FAQ Locator would have told you this if you had used it first.) You can also read Ryan Denke's advice on how to fix it.
For a quick & dirty alternative to replacing worn hatch struts, read Dean's Daily Discussion #10, which describes a gizmo you can use to temporarily lock the struts in the open position
