I'm trying to identify the gray wire between my thumb and index finger.

It goes underneath the carpet and looks like it will go to the back of the car. I thought that it might go to antenna in the rear window. But I checked for continuity between the connector and the wire that goes to the rear window, and there is none.

EDIT:My multimeter is retarded. It does go to the back window antenna.


When the gray wire was unplugged, the radio wouldn't turn on. So I couldn't transplant the radio into another eclipse that was missing that wire. But after the radio was unplugged for a while, it would run after it was reset with the anti-theft code. I think you just have to leave it unplugged for a while.

Regarding the other wires:
The other big wire (black one) goes to the main antenna.
For the main radio harness (B31) I've found that:
Green(white stripe)= Illumination
Thick Red wire(gray dots)= constant 12v for memory
Thick Blue wire=12V when car is turned on
Via the FSM electrical PDF:
5&13 are L front speaker
2&8 are L rear speaker
1&7 are R rear speaker
6&14 are R front speaker
???? what is the black (yellow stripe) wire on the connector? The FSM ties it into everything from the cruise control to the fogs to the mirrors, *I=confused*

Black with Yellow.....test it for ground! All other grounds under the hood are black/yel

That's not to hard to explain...

The green/white wire you mention first supplies +12 volt to any illumination circuit bulbs that become active when the marker light switch is turned on.

In order to make some of the bulbs in that circuit dimmable, you connect the other lead of the bulb (or LED) to the black/yellow wire instead of simply running it to a ground wire. This way the bulb finds a pulsed ground connection provided through the OEM pulse width modulating dimmer circuit.

Not many aftermarket radios have provisions for dimmable illumination so the black/yellow wire many times goes unused.

The reason you see the electrical schematic route the black/yellow wire to so many other components is that all of those components have a bulb that needs dimming.

To the OP: I have that gray wire spliced into some other wire (not sure off the top of my head) and I bought it that way so I have no idea. Looks almost like an antenna of some sort.
