101934, My new Valve cover with pictures Posted by EventsCo21XL, Nov-09-08 11:25 AM
Hey there everyone,
Well I decided to paint a spare valve cover red with silver metallic lettering. I needed to replace my Valve cover gasket anyways, so that's why I did it. So far here's my progress
A picture of the spare valve cover b4 I bought it from Star Turbo Talon (The one on the bottom). He's a awesome member that helped me out so much. Thanks again!

Now after recieving it, I proceeded to strip the old paint and start over
First coat of Silver metallic before I masked off the letters

Now after the Silver metallic coats were done, I masked off the letters and proceeded to paint the VC red

After letting the paint sit for a little while, it was time to pull the tape off the letters.
Finally clearcoated and curing right now

It's hard to see, but the lettering has a metallic flake to it. Now just gotta let it sit for a few days and do a little touch up :D Then it's going on my car with a new VC gasket as well (Reason why I even wanted to paint a VC)
Tell me what you all think. Thanks everyone in advance for all your comments.

I just take a 20K rpm tool with a 2" disk to the letters after I paint the valve cover. It gives it a cleaner look and I don't have to take the time to mask it off.

mines kinda the same i used a piece of aluminum bar stock to make a sanding block then just layed it flat and went back and forth till i had a nice flat silver surface with a nice unidirectional grain in it.
little more work but it has nice, even edges

Agreed. Thumbs up on the effort, but thumbs down on the tape job.
I would start over and use the sandpaper method to get the letters bare if thats the look you are going for.

It looks nice but it loooks weird to me.
The pics look like in the first pic that the paint is like caked on and extremely thick or something. Also, the holes for the bolts look like they are filled with poo poo. Did you leave those rubber pieces for the bolts inside the valve cover when you painted it???

Thanks everyone for looking at my topic hehe. I figured since I had to install the valve cover and replace the valve cover gasket I might as well wash the car along with it after I finished up (Usually only wash at night to avoid water spots hehe). So here are some new pictures to show you all. Don't mind the front bumper, as I'm waiting for a new one to come from paint right now. Also I didn't get a chance to detail the engine bay, so that's dirty right now. Thanks everyone for looking though.

Looks good but you're missing door caps and a matching door handle ;)
I'm a big fan of the gauges too
