As title states, I need information on how to remove the two ac vents in the center of the dash, just above the ac controls. I have removed the plastic cover, but i'm not too sure what I should do to get the vents out. I need to clean the tube that goes into them to get the smell out of the car. When I pulled the plastic cover out, one side of the vents came loose, but not the other. Do I just pull hard? I don't want to break anything, so I thought I'd see if anyone else has removed it before; I'm sure people have from changing interior colors.

I was gonna pull the whole heater assembly that's behind the dash out, but it's a pain, I can't find all the screws/bolts that hold it in. Every part I take out I get to the last screw and I can't find it, or I do find it and I can't get a screwdriver on it cause it's in some impossible place. Very frustrating.

On the kind of a plus side, I located the source of the smell in my car. I pulled a mouse nest the size of a basketball out of my heater assembly when I took the itermediate piece that connects the main part to the blower behind the glove box. It completely filled the blower fan, the intermediate, and part of the actually assembly. So far, cleaning every part I can reach with a 1:1 ratio of vinegar water is slowly getting the smell out. Right now I'm at a point where my car smells vaguely like mouse piss and a lot like vinegar. good news is vinegar kills the pee and will fade in a few days/weeks. So I just got to get to the rest of the heating pipes and literally scrub the piss out of them. Never let it be said that I don't love my 2gnt enough to get my hands dirty. I just happen to have also acquired a taste for latex gloves as of late.

Also there's a foam wall on the back of the assembly, I'm assuming an air filter. Since foam natually absorbs smells easily, the smell is likely to linger there unless I replace it. Anyone know where I can get a new one and how I can get the sob out?

If any of that made sense, and if you're not horribly grossed out, I could really use the help.

The only thing that should be holding you back now should be a cable attached to the vent opener/closer things (whatever the hell you call them) Should pop right off with a flathead then you can pull the vents out without issue. I think it's only on the right side take a look, you should be able to see it rather easily. I can't believe for all the times I've pulled/installed these I cant describe it to you any better.

like he said, be gentle and pull...they will pop out. i popped them out back in the day...just be gentle and pull...notice a pattern here?
