Inour cars, where can I mount a 5" LCD panel without giving up both dins?

you can mount it on the dash.. or like me, in the visor (either one).. i have a 4" and i still can see it from the drivers side..which isnt a good thing.

I have a 5.8 on a custom hinged thingy. It is in the center console in front of the ac controls. So its in there and when you want to change the ac, you flip up the lcd, Im gana take some pics tomorow, so everyone can see

I am considering getting the 5.6 one in a month or so just to play around with and probably mount in the dash I will post if I do get it

i have the 4 in version of that screen from partexpress, and it works great.. the only thing is.. that the framing looks kinda ghetto, but if you mount it nicely, it will look good.. bright full graphics, well best that you can expect from that smalll a screen.. its worth the price imo. also, most of the indash's dont come with tuners, just a cd/dvd player... to my knowledge, pioneer makes quality stuff, and its fairly cheap.. i get pretty good deals on them, so that helps.. if you want the tuner, it costs more (dts, dolby dig, etc).

You could mount it where the 2 air vents are above your ac controls... you would lose those vents but you would still have the ones on the doors....

The vents on the door do nothing!

clarion has an in dash unit that can play while the lcd is folded away. bangin screen awsome lookin display only catch is it doesn't do DVD's in the main drive you gotta get a slave drive for it which is like 330 more but the unit it self is like 1200 and i don't think you need a seperate brain for it.

well here is the idea I am looking at doing over time. either a 5.6 or 6" screen hooked upto a computer. The comp will be built for dvd, mp3, mobile internet (got to love free nights and weekends on cell phones) ect. that is the idea so far.

Why don't you try this:

I was thinking that a kool place to mount a screen would be under the passenger side airbag cover. Obviously, the bag would have to be removed in order to do this. But, it would be really easy to put a set of hinges on the rear of the cover and some type of small hydraulic lift to assist in opening it. I'm thinking some simple type of magnetic catch could keep it closed. Or maybe making it so a release switch or lever could be in the glovebox. That way it could be kept pretty stealth when not being used.

ive seen cars like that at shows.. they just got rid of their airbags, made their own makeshift replacement to fill in the hole and hollowed it out.. looks sweet, and you can get a pretty big screen in there.. if you really wanted to, ive helped a friend out with getting brackets to mount the screen on the dash, right above the center counsole. there is a small bracket mounted on the dash, and whenever you wanted to use the screen, just attach the screen to the bracket and your ready to go.. this was on a van for a navigation system, but i would prob work on our cars.

What kind of brackets?

Also, I don't really like the idea of removing saftey equipment (ie airbags). They are there for a purpose! And insurance companies wouldn't like it either...

if you don't have a sun roof make a folding unit that will mount to where to controls for the sun roof would be. i put my air gauges in the center where to 2 vents used to be.

sorry 95esi, didnt know that someone responded after me.. we had the pioneer 5.6" screen for a naviagitional system. we put it in a van, so there was some room. he got the brackets from pioneer i believe. ill talk to him tomorrow and find out exactly what he used. im sure you could construct your own.. ill get back to you with what he used or how you could possibly make one yourself after i see him saturday

i have a 7 inch on my dash above the vents.. mounting plate came with the lcd.. i have mobile internet in mine via my old ass NEC laptop.

for dvd playback, forget about spending 1200 bucks on a overpriced clarion or pioneer.. i got a sony dvd HOME player for 100 bucks installed in the car... and i have the sony xt- 40v tuner so i get off air stations as well... hooked up to the MD unit...

have had this setup for over a year so far and it works pretty well... although i still have not found a permanent home for the laptop yet.. ;)

i talked to my friend today, and he said that he just used the brackets that came with the screen.. i dont really remember what the brackets look like, but im sure it wouldnt be too hard to make up some of your own to save some cash. on a side note.. i had the home dvd player hooked up to the car, but then it skipped too much from my 15.. now i switch between the dvd and the vhs.. the only advantage that the expensive systems has is the sound is better when run through the master units (dts/dd).. just two pennies
