My headliner was one of the few things on my car that looked exactly the way it did when I drove it off the Mitsu lot - until last week. California heat melted the glue and now its starting to droop on the passenger side.

I bought some cool fabric in the LA fashion district (actually to make curtains - LOL), but it would be cool to use the extra fabric for a headliner. I'm looking for ideas/pics of what you guys have done. I know there are carbon fiber headliners out there but maybe there's a small cost in terms of sound absorption. So I'm mostly interested in the fabric ideas.

once I get the black alcantra my headliner will be covered in that. keep in mind that exotic materials won't make any major difference in the weight of the headliner (the resins might actually make it heavier) and the construction of the headliner prevents a shit ton of heat from radiating down on you from the roof (I drove around last year in a dark green car with no headliner or A/C last summer, that sucked) Exotic materials won't always block as much heat. Exotics are also MUCH harder to install, they don't flex like you need them to so that you can get them in the car.

just carefully peel off the old material and glue your new fabric to the foam. 3M trim adhesive works great, just follow the instructions EXACTLY

My headliner/visors are covered in black suede. The first time I used 3m super 77 and it held great for a couple months, then I had to redo it because it started to sag again. If you can, find some 3m high-strength 90 spray adhesive, it's in a green can and holds so much better. Also if the fabric you have doesn't stretch well, get some foam backed material from the fabric store, it's just like oem headliner material, and cover that laid out flat, then take that and go over your headliner, makes it much easier to install without wrinkles :thumbsup

I was thinking of just tearing off the fabric off the old headliner, and putting on my new fabric -> spraying that 3m stuff on in the middle first, and then working towards the edges
