Maybe someone will know and by judging, I think I will be okay, but I just wanted to post to see if anyone had any prior experience.

This will be my first two tone job I have ever done, and in about 3 weeks, its getting done.

Now just for my question. Do you think one quart of paint would cover the eclipse Hood, The roof and pillars and half of the hatch and hatch jams? I think it would but I want to hear opinions. I only bought one quart to cover that stuff, the mix on it is 4:1. I just didnt want to buy another quart at $89 a quart :)

One quart should be plenty .

We were ALL WRONG!

Went to spray today, and only got to spraying the roof and hatch jams, and half of the hatch.

Did not have ANY paint left over for the hood :(

how thick were you shooting it? I always use a touch extra reducer and shoot a little thin. it's a bit of a trick to keep it from running but I've never used that much on that little surface

problem is, it was so thin, I had to hit it with 4 coats of paint.

House of Kolor Pearl. The top half of the car is HOK Black Pearl.

For the rest of the car, ie the body and door jams, both doors, and front bumper, I only bought 2 quarts of HOK base, and then 3 quarts of HOK kandy over top of that, but I think I am going to buy another quart of base and one more quart of kandy to be safe. I have never sprayed kandy yet, but I know its super thin.

The question is what type of gun and compressor your using ? Paint should not be overreduced to make extra . You shouldnt need 4-5 coats to cover . i usually do 2 coats or 3 over light primers . Laying down candy and pearl midcoats can really show how good a painter a person is .overlapped by 75% and spray light/medium coats from a bit further away to prevent blochyness and walking the entire length of the car.

Good point, I use a HVLP gun with the pressure set fairly low and I get really good paint transfer. someone not using a HVLP gun at a higher pressure will bounce the paint right off the car and waste a bunch of it in the air.

DevilBiss Finishline HVLP gun spraying base and clears around 22psi with 75% overlapping.

3 coats over grey primer. You must spray that many coats, HOK paint is VERY VERY thin.

4 coats? Damn.

To spray the candy coats, it does take a lot of them. It is very, very thin and will need to go over it a bunch to get the look you are wanting. I think you have to get closer spraying compared to actual the basecoats, clearcoats, etc. also. At least that is what my teacher taught/showed me.
