Ok I know what color range I want 12k...now how do you guys feel about the ebay kits??

Do you get what you pay for here? Any experience??

ohhh god why 12k? i guess if you want purple and Ehh for light output :shrug
best light output is from 4200k to about 6k at the most depending on brand. also light output has A LOT to do with the lens.

i dont know if they actually inspect headlights where you live, but you do know that any "PnP HID" (where you stick a HID bulb in a stock halogen housing) are technically illegal right? (DoT regulations do not permit them in a car not designed for them*) the only acceptable way around this is to replace the entire bulb housing. i.e retrofitting in projector with a D2S or D2R bulb

to make it good your atleast gonna need projectors, since you will either blind people or have scatter everywhere if you just throw them in the stock eclipse housing.

as for ebay kits, yikes! recently there has been a HUGE NHTSC crackdown on imported "HID Conversion Kits" being sold. most were from ebay, others like JC Whitney were also told to recall there sold kits. so buyer beware




*legal bulshit:
HID conversion kit is intended to replace certain original headlighting equipment, the kit is subject to paragraph S5.8, Replacement Equipment, of FMVSS No. 108 Lamps, Reflective Devices and Associated Equipment, 49 CFR 571.108. Paragraph S5.8 requires that any motor vehicle replacement replaceable light source that is offered for sale in the United States comply with the requirements of FMVSS No. 108. The Federal specifications for replaceable light sources used in original equipment motor vehicle headlighting systems are located in 49 CFR Part 564, Replaceable Light Source Information. The purpose for storing the specifications in Part 564 is two fold: (1) to ensure the availability to replacement light source manufacturers of the specifications of original equipment light sources such that replacement light sources are interchangeable with original equipment light sources and provide equivalent performance, and (2) that redesigned or newly developed light sources are designated as distinct, different, and noninterchangeable with previously existing light sources.

Paragraph S7.7, Replaceable light sources, of FMVSS No. 108, requires in part that each replaceable light source be designed to conform to the dimensions and electrical specifications furnished with respect to it pursuant to Part 564. Thus, in order to use a replaceable light source in a replaceable bulb headlamp, a manufacturer must first have submitted certain information with respect to it (and its ballast if required) in Part 564, or it may use a light source (and ballast if required) if its specifications are already filed in Part 564.

Your best bet is to retro fit projectors into a set of headlights. 12k... you probably wont be able to see shit at night. Your best bet is from 4300 to 6000. I have e46 projectors, that are modded that give off a blueish purple look on a 4300 bulb. That way I dont compromise the ability to see at night, and give a nice color and cut off. Ebay products are usually not that great, and you get what you pay for. There is no cheap good quality HID.

Read foggy's post and then read it again Hid planet is the best source for information for doing anything HID.

Azdave has a very good writeup on his site rcaz.com of how he did his retrofit using some of the ebay projector headlamps and OEM BMW HID parts.

bottom line though, the "kits" out there are very illegal and usually total crap. the light dispersion is all over the place and the actual light output is pretty pathetic. there's a honduh guy who lives near me that kitted his civic with one of the diamond blue kits (not sure what color range that is) and the stock super old halogen headlights in my toyota AE86 (they're pathetic, trust me) put out more usable light than his HID's

I just had 6000 installed in my ride with Sylvia lenses.

My car will be in Audio Fashions' showroom all week getting tweaked.

i honestly believe there are two factors;

1. getting them for lighting and color

2. getting them for lighting and being able to see better at night.

4300k is the purest white and 6000k is the most common kit sold. i wanted the 3000k on my old bike (gold light output) but for my new one, i just used 6000k. like others said, you get what you pay for. i'm actually surprised there are no vendors that sell hid kits on the forums. here's where i got mine a long with another vendor;

hmm ok so which kind is the kit for the stock housing? i think im just going to buy stock ones and say screw retrofitting too much lol. And im thinking of buying 8k.

if your gonna go that route just get the cheepest ebay kit that has all the stuff you need for a PnP kit

dont use hids without any projector lenses .

I had HIDs in my stock housing. They werent too bright. Just dont aim them up at the sky where they would blind people.

There is a dsm tuning shop in charlotte (can't remember the name off-hand) but they said if i got my projectors and wanted to do an hid retrofit, they'd do it for $300 in any color/output i want.


I think it's worth it since i can't see shit at night. I'd blame it on my glasses (i normally wear contacts) but i think it's a nice excuse to upgrade. Maybe i'll do it for x-mas or my b-day.
