Well I started her up yesterday and it run like a champ. No problems yet. I do have CEL until I get an Eprom Ecu and Dsmlink but otherwise the car runs fine.

I am going to drive it like I regularly would but keep the rpms moving. I will run it really hard once and boost to 10 psi and see how it goes. I am waiting for a stock 2g fuel rail. Mine cracked while I was over tightening it. So.. 2 days from now I will have pics.

It was real funny when I started the car for the first time. We cranked over and then it rev to like 3k and we were like turn it off. I took the key and was like oh fuck it wont turn off. And everyone was like shit it wont turn off and it seemed like the noise was getting louder and everyone like running away like it was going to blow. I had the keys in my hand and kept saying I fuckin turned it off the keys are in my hand, wtf. So Jason_esit pulled like 2 or 3 spark plug wires but kept going. He finally pulled the other two and it shut off.

We to come to think about it afterwards, the turbo timer was still on. We felt dumb ass hell. After having my car disconnected for 3 months now, the Safc 2 and turbo timer are still exaclty like I left it.

I will get pics, but the cars run great, and idles fine. I drove it around with the new Gabor Clutch through all the gears. It is much harder to get it going, you have to give it more gas with the aftermarket clutch or it will die. The reverse is harder to put into to gear also. I will post pics of the engine swap and more updates later.

90 CAS
BM Insert
Gabor Stage 3 Clutch
Wiesco Piston 8:3:1 .40mm bored
1g Rods
Blocked was decked
Rod bearings to .10mm
EGR Blockoff plate
Emisson cannister gone, vaccum lines capped off and taken out

Other than that, is left the same.

Congrats man. I'm glad it all worked out for you. Breaking it all in is a fun and nervewracking experience. Enjoy it.

Don't be too gentle. Go out and find a long long stretch of road and just get on it 2k-5k about 20 times. Check your oil levels and change the oil often and just make sure you use all the rpm range over and over again. If there is a problem, it will always be there so you may as well know about it in 100 miles as opposed to 1,000 or even 10,000 by being to gentle.

Have fun with it and drive "enthusiastically".

thats funny about it not shutting off. As soon as I read that you had the keys out and still running, turbo timer popped in my head. Mine beeps as it counts down.

Did you do this swap yourself? IF so how hard was it on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the hardest. I may eb doing this in the winter but i am trying to gauge how hard it will be.

Ummm 10 being the first time I have ever done an engine swap and actually did it myself.

If you have someone to help you through the way and actual extra manpower to lift things then will make the job much easier.

I watched my brother's 420a built engine install.

He helped me everytime I did anything serious on my car. He sold his car not too long ago to some guy locally.

You dont need that much help but you'll need help with putting the engine in the car, not taking it out, that wasnt hard. I defintely needed help when doing any tranny work. When you put the flywheel on, unless you have a compressor, which we didnt use one, someone with gloves has to hold the flywheel while my brother torqued down the flywheel bolts. Otherwise the internet was the biggest help.

People came over from time to time to help but then I would run into a missing part or problem or getting tired and we would quit for the day. Ryan_hes dropped by to help some days along with other people my age that helped.

Most of the work is guidance on putting it all together.


Problems I ran into...
Machine shop took 5 weeks to complete his work.

Somehow, the 6 bolt engine I got was an auto and was a weird adapter peice from the block to the flywheel and we were like wtf is that. The flywheel wouldnt mount on there.. like a big circle and a small circle suppose to line up. We looked at it for hours and finally Jason_esit just like pulled the little circle out with his hands and then bingo it lined up. We were like, maybe we suppose to use it.. just a peice of metal we didnt need... hmm... but we figured that engine must be from an auto and this peice would be how you convert it to the tranny.

Gabor Clutch gave me wrong specs on flywheel right before the shootout but then he got me another 6bolt fWD flywheel for me.

Lost my ignition power transistor and bought a new one from Mitsugraveyard and then found mine in the corner of the garage when I first started hacking at my car when diagnosed w/ crankwalk.

Broke my stock fuel rail from overtighting.

So.. if you had like me there... you wouldnt have any problems, unless something really outrageous happened.

If you want the ultimate import challenge, doing an engine swap afterwards you feel like you can do anything to the car and it cant get any harder than that. Basically, your the fucking man!

Engine pull is significantly more tedious. It may or may not be tougher, depending on perspective, but there is SOOOOOOO much more to doa nd keep track of. Vacuum lines, sensors, bolts etc makes it easier to mess up but not necessarily more difficult. It's certainly doable but not in the fashion of just pulling things and dropping them whever you feel. You'd lose track of everything within the first hour, which is disaster waiting to happen.

As long as YOU are the main person doing it and can keep track of all the nuts , bolts and sensors that come out, Its really not that hard. Now try doing it on a v-8. Thats a real pain in the ass !

Good work Jarrad... can't wait for you to start driving again, its been all summer... miss your car with us (now that i got one finally, haha)

Yeah, it was somehwat of a pain to do, since we ran into little obstacles on the way mostly involving parts and such. But we got it done fortunately. I was there for the technical and difficult parts of the job (ie pulling the engine/tranny, installing the LSD, droppign the engine, installing the tranny which was a MAJOR friggin pain, and starting her up, after figuring out little issues like wrong things plugged together.)

But this was by and large the work of my brother. He really went the distance here and put forth the big effort in all the little things, including disonnection of everything, installation of all the accessories...etc. I knew he could take it on, and did just a terrific job with all of it. :bowdown Way to go man!

A couple of 4g63 lessons I would pass on, is that at least 3 of the plugs are the same during this hookup. Meaning, you have to know what those three plugs specifically corresond to or you can screw it up. (i.e. AC compressor, coil plug, and somethign else I cant remember...maybe fuel injector harness) That sucks compared to the 420a which uses different plugs for EVERYTHING. I would also add on thatthe 4g63 uses way too many BS vacuum lines. The only things we left hooked up was a direct line to the FPR, boost gauage, and later on, the boost contoller. The rest of it is BS and you can get rid. Just LOSE it.

Oh yeah, to vent on one other thing. WTF is up with all those stupid ass coolant lines to the throttle body. That is some friggin over-engineering which is a waste of time. Anyways, it's definitely a doable job. It really wasn't too bad, but I recommend having lots of funds like my brother had from working all summer to get it done right like he did.

Yup most of my vac lines are capped off. Also for those plugs that look alike, you should always label them :) Makes life alot easier.
