9589, Probably a dumb tuning question but.... Posted by sd240, Oct-18-04 05:07 PM
What's the ideal O2 sensor voltage I should be tuning for? I'm new to the whole turbo tuning stuff, so sorry for being dumb, I'm just trying to learn. Oh and I have a 1G.

O2's aren't what you should tune by. Make sure you have a pocketlogger or something that can read knock. Tune by knock. O2's are generally a somewhat reliable byproduct of knock and fuel trims, but tuning by O2's only is a recipe for disaster.
The higher the octane the lower to voltage you can safely run. On 93 pump, I'd shoot for .92-.93 or so, to be safe, but again, tune by knock.

Well I actually had a pocket logger in mind, and today it came, so I installed the Palm'n'Stein on it today, and I'm trying to figure it all out. Have any suggestions? Oh and is Timing supposed to jump around a lot all of a sudden?

Timing should be cycling constantly, although when you get on it, it will cycle in a tiny range as opposed to a larger one off the gas.
Tune by knock and you'll be a happy camper. Lean it out 'til you knock, then richen it up just enough to get the knock to go away. Rinse, lether repeat until you go so fast to feel sick from the joy.

Just take out fuel till you have knock you can live with. SOme poeple consider that dangerous but to each his own. I basically ignore my o2's when it comes to tuning. Tune everything to knock......just my $0.02.....

Alright so I'm tuning everything to knock like I was told, but my problem now is that I have my SAFC I turned all the way up to 50 at 70000 RPM, but I'm still getting 8 counts of knock at like 6900RPM. good news is that it's down from 15, but what is an acceptable limit for it? Oh and mods are K&N w/no can, MBC set at 15psi, egt & boost, 3in turbo back(except for stock o2 housing), and rewire for stock fuel pump. so should I still be knocking, or could there be something wrong somewhere?

i believe you can get knock or timing retard from too much fuel. anyone else care to chime in?

Hmmmmm....interesting. Does anybod have any indepth information about this?

Dude, you are running +50% fuel? That is far far too rich. That will certainly pull timing. Bring it down to 0% and go from there.
Timing gets pulled the further away from ideal you go in either direction (lean or rich).
Your O2s right now must be 1.00 or so.
Are you sure that your knock sensor is in full operating condition? Perhaps it is picking up some phantom knock.

i'd go with an O2 of like .88-.90 . . . is this on a 14b? . . anything over .9 is kinda rich since you can't be running that much boost on a 14b anyway . .
