9319, 1g n/t bucking, sputtering, coolant level light on... Posted by DSMissed, Dec-07-04 05:22 AM
We just got another 1g Talon, n/t with 112K miles. It's been pretty good, but a few days ago the coolant level light came on, and it started to run kind of crappy. Then last night it started this thing where if you try and keep it at a steady RPM, whether at an idle or not, it sputters and bucks. But it doesn't do it during acceleration. We put new NGK plugs in, and we are going to replace the plug wires also. But does it sound more like a fuel related problem? Maybe just a case of bad gas... And what's up with the coolant light being on? That might be a totally different problem, too, I don't know.
Any ones guess is as good as mine, any advice would be appreciated.

check the coolant level and the fuel filter.

the coolant level is fine, and I don't know where the fuel filter is to check it

the fuel filter is on the fire wall close to the middle, but more on the passenger side. Its held on with a bracket that bolts to the firewall, there are 2 fuel lines on it, one on top that goes to the fuel rail, and one on the bottom that is the feed line.
Check your Haynes or Chiltons to get a visual.

how the hell do you check that? If i'm taking that f*cking thing off, you better believe i'm putting a new on one and not looking at it again for 30-50k... That was hands down the second most obnoxious part of the turbo swap next to breaking a screw off in the turbine housing.

The alternator going out will cause the coolant/birdcage light to come on. Usually a couple other lights on the dash illuminate (dimly) as well.

true...but I've had alternator problems before with another car, and it wasn't anything like this. This is the 3rd n/t DSM I've owned, and the only one I've had problems with.
