9013, HKS SSQV Question Posted by Narco, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
I recently bought a HKS SSQV from a guy on tooners, but I don't have the instruction sheet. I imagine the install is fairly straight forward, but I'd like to have the instructions for it. If anyone has, or knows where I can get them for the Eclipse specific kit I'd very much appreciate it.
Checked HKSusa, nothing online there except a number to call to replace them for ten bucks.
Thanks,
Travis

Just the BOV. I bought the recirc kit separately, and I have the 2G adapter for the UICP.

I understand how to install it, I guess I need to know if it needs adjustment or whatever :shrug

If your hear it whistle under boost, it's too loose. If you hear compressor surge when you let off the gas, it's too tight. :P

and it's the bolt in the back that you loosen or tighten. you shouldn't have to mess with anything else.

Got it installed...most of the way. It looks like I need a reducer for the signal line.
Thanks BTW.

the best ones imo would be 1.)crushed 1g bov (under 26psi) 2.) greddy type s (under 26psi) 3.) tial (over 26psi)
i like the ssq and i would rate it about the same as the greddy, i havent heard others having problems with it but most of the local threads and archives i read are 1g related and "non rice" related mods

I'll let you know what I think...Going to CSK for a reducer.

I thought it was supposed to be only tight enough to hold boost...so the little turkey gobble sound is fine..same with the whistle...isnt it just the insert that change the sound?

The gobble sound is bad. It means you have compressor surge and is horrible for your turbo. The spring in the BOV is too tight when that happens and it needs to be loosened just to the point where the gobble stops.

i don't believe you can get an hks ssqv to not gobble while driving normally without leaking.
getting on it, it should not surge.

Hm...SO why does the tial bov sound like that? is that causing compressor surge to?

now that particular question has been asked with a diff BOV, and it was supposedly "normal" (with the type S). We're talkign about the flutter or "shutter" the car makes when getting off at partial throttle, right?

The flutter is ok. My Type-S does it under light boost as the spring is tight enough to resist letting off under light boost conditions. When you hear the "gobble", you'll notice a HUGE difference. It's a violent sound and the car will also physically react to it with some hesitation. Like I mentioned in the other thread you linked, the heavy "chugging" or "gobble" sounds is bad. The flutter is normal. A BOV like a Tial has a flutter that borders on surge, but then again, the Tial BOV isn't for tiny turbos and a casual daily driver. You won't see much "light throttle" and "light boost" conditions on a Tial warranted setup. It's a serious BOV and is serious overkill for most setups out there.
Also, I am not a fan of the HKS SSQ at all. I'd reccommend changing in favor of something else.

MOst HKS's cause Compressor Surge. I have it and i know of a few others that have it. IT isn't as bad since i got the 3052 which is leading me to believe they don't like smaller turbos. I have no idea, i do not like the HKS SSQV anymore tho.....

Sorry I wasn't trying to undermine you or catch you in a trap, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't trashing my new turbo! Thanks again matt!

I agree also.
Have one on the silvia and it is fucking annoying. Besides that it always flutters for some reason.
