8981, Idle Issues. Posted by Blizare, Mar-03-05 05:14 PM
my friend just bought a 90' Talon FWD turbo for 2K .
196,000 Km, recent timing belt done, new wires, plugs.
We're driving last night and at the exact point we hit some train tracks, the car starts idling high. Like we were doing 30 mph over the tracks (hard) and we slow for a stop sign. Car revs and hangs at 2K rpms. after like 10 sec falls down to 1500.
And now what's that??? is it missing now?? Sure enough, it's def. running on 3 cylinders.......pull #4 plug wire and no change in running condition.
So thats out in the middle of the dark road, so we go out to the shop and check it out better there. First thing I checked was if the injector was firing.
It wasn't. Probobly because the fucking harness clip is busted and theres no little metal jib holding it on :shrug
I "PLUG" the injector in :wary and sure enough the miss is gone.
But the high idle is there still. So i came on and searched about the ISC and found the location sure enough.....the fucking clip was hanging there. The one single wire on top ot the TB was NOT CONNECTED. (Obviousley these BOTH happened when we hit the railroad tracks :doh)
So we plug it in and the idle drops down now to a steady 1100-1200.
Thats where we stand.
I checked to see if the throttle plate was closing all the way and it is. I also checked the idle screw and it's in all the way and tight. When I loosen it the car raises the idle and then starts surging.
Sorry for the long post...but what else should I check.
haha. I searched to might I add again :P

So it is idling steady at 1100-1200. What is the problem?

also, you cant just turn the BISS screw without doing the grounding clippy thing. the ecu will compensate for your changes and get all confumbled if you just start turning it. check the vfaq.

yes. is that a problem...shouldn 't it idle at like 800? it's AT operating temp too BTW
after that long drawn out explanation :P
i jsut wanted to say what I HAD done.....
Do you think the ISC is toast? I'm going to use the haynes manual and test it today.

Dude be thankful it's idling steady anywhere. 1100 is fine.
Mine idles at 2300 rpm when I start the car cold, and then idle surges between 1300 and 1700 for the most part when it's warmed up.
A steady idle is a blessing in these cars.
