8943, Do I need a 3" downpipe? Posted by FlyinEsi, Mar-09-05 07:37 AM
Most of you guys know my setup by now, big 16G turbo, FMIC, 550cc injectors. I've been thinking about finishing off my exhaust with a 2.5 to flex, 3" to cat downpipe, and 3" high flow cat. I'm pushing 18psi right now,
Do I really need an aftermarket downpipe?
Will I notice performance gains from it?
Will there be a huge sound difference by going with a high flow cat? I really don't want the Honda sound.

You're not going to get any rasp by opening the downpipe, Dan. 3" is going to help your spool time dramatically and from driving your car at 20 psi...it could use the quicker spool, in my opinion. You should give me a call, I can get you hooked up with that local metal worker and have a beautiful 3" downpipe made for you and installed for a hella good price.

A good 2.5 inch to flex and 3" to cat downpipe will show an incredible jump in power. That should have beed done before the 16G. And you are using a stock cat? :puke
Also you won't ever hear a turbo DSM having a Honda rasp. That is why it is called a Honda rasp and not a DSM rasp.

Get ahold of this guy, Dan. http://www.metalmanfab.com/ Just tell him AZSRT-4 sent you. Trust me, if you decide to get something done with him you'll be very very happy with it.

Will this guy be able to hook me up with a high flow cat too?? I can go with Buscher or RRE and get a Downpipe & High Flow Cat that is a universal bolt on for $360 I think. Can he do much better than that?

Either buy a test pipe or get a random technology cat, all the other ones suck

Is every downpipe that would bolt up the stock T25 going to bolt up to my Big16G?
I might order that ebay pipe today, or I can get the Apex'i GT for $225 or N1 for $190.
I guess I really don't need a cat, if I need to pass emissions I'll just keep my stock downpipe and swap when needed.
Anybody see any problems with the $83 downpipe?? It is a full 3" DP instead of 2.5->3.0, mandrel bent...or should I spend the extra $100 and go with Apex'i?
