Hey guys, I have a quick question, its more of a matter of opinion but I still want to get an idea of what you guys think

What do you guys think, I really like the dual tip look - stock looking.

My stock exhaust is totaly shot, rusted through, and the flex pipe is wore out.

Just real quick, im getting my exhuast done at a local shop, my talon is going to be a dailer driver, its fwd, so im not looking for a semi exhuast here. I have a custom 2.5 pressbent dp with flex section already. Im going to get either 2.5 pressbent cat back, or 3" pressbent catback. I know a lot of you are going to frown on the pressbent, but refer to the daily driver comment.

I talked to the guy that will be doing it, hes a friend of the fam so he said he can remove the cat for me.

To sum it up.

1. Do you like the look of the muffler, think it would look ok on the talon?

2. 2.5 pressbent or 3 pressbent. If I stay with the stock 14b will I notice a diff?

3. Put a test pipe in, or put a resonator in? I dont want it super raspy

2. There is nothing wrong with driving a Mandrel Bent exhaust around for daily driving. 2.5" DP with 3" Cat Back seems to be the way to go

3. If you don't have a resonator in already, I would put one in over the test pipe.

Since yours is rusted, I would seriously consider getting a Stainless Steel Exhaust sytem. You don't want to go through this again down the line.

I agree...

1. I Dont care for the muffler, too big or something, I dont think itll look right.

2. Hes talking pressbent because of cost, its gonna be his daily driver so he doesnt wanna spend tons of money on it

3. Yea man, get a resonator, we talked about it a while ago.

Since you won't be pushing alot of air, I doubt you'd even notice a difference between mandrel and PB.
Since it's a DD, I'd just go with a 2.5". That way, you won't need to spend the extra $$ on a resonator and it won't be annoyingly loud. You'll gain a little flow by going cat-less anyway...

mmmm..... I have an aluminized mild steel exhaust as opposed to a stainless exhaust and I have no problems with it rusting or falling apart on me. It spent 2 years in upstate New York too...all winter long. Still shiny like when I got it. It cost less and weighs less than the same thing in stainless too.

I really prefer the sound of the test pipe. It doesn't sound raspy or bad at all on my car. In fact my Talon is quite quiet with the 2.5 to 3" downpipe, 3" test and 3" catback. I have the Thermal muffler.

I had an aluminzed steel exhaust rust out on me. I also know a couple of people who went through the same thing. But i will admit that for me it is a personal preference all the way.

Which manufacturer? OEM exhaust systems are aluminized mild steel and they last 5-10 years depending on location. When I pulled the oem exhaust off my 12-year-old talon it was still in perfect shape. Maybe I'm just special, but I've never had any problems with any of my many cars.

Thanks for the input guys, what kind of muffler would you recomend?

I like the dual tip (stock look) Ive tried searching to see what others have done, but havent had much luck finding what I need.

Is yours custom made or a brand name? And which Thermal muffler?(what type/size of tip on it?).

My exhaust is from A.H.P. It is the straightest exhaust offered for AWD DSMs. They are no longer in business.

The muffler is a Thermal R&D with a 4" tip. The body of the muffler is slightly oval. Not sure what else you need to know about it.

When I ordered it, it was $710 shipped for the downpipe, test pipe, and catback with the SS muffler and tip. It took almost 16 weeks to arrive. (most likely why they are no longer in business.) Same goes with Indy Race Cores.

I was wondering because you said it's pretty quiet. I don't want a loud exhaust and I saw a dual tip thermal exhaust(like the stock look). I don't really like the big round tips but I can maybe live with a 4". Do you have any resonators? And do you have any videos/sound clips of your car :)?

i thought that ATR had the straightest dsm exhaust. maybe they had the straightest exhaust of their time, since like you say, they are no longer around. and too bad about IRC, i want one of them front mounts you and matt are sporting. :D

My exhaust is really just a straight pipe from the bend down from the turbo to the rear diff. It bends at about a 20 degree angle at the diff then the muffler is mounted right there. So the only bends are down from the turbo and right at the muffler. Pretty much straight all the way through.

I do have a video of me launching the car at the track. IM me some time and I will send it to you. There are no resonators. I think they are worthless.

the ATR exhaust is bent at the DP of course, straight all the way down to the diff, then swings around the diff and out comes the muffler. i would say it is fairly straight but there is only so much straight you can get on an exhaust of any kind IMO minus just shooting straight out the side the car. i got no resonators either, i want full loudness/annoying factor. did i mention i also have an external dump tube on the WG? :D

Anybody have any good suggestions for a nice muffler for around 150?

I would prefer dual tip, but dont want some cheap ass muffler, I want it to sound nice
