I'm thinking about building a 2.3L stroker motor with something like an FP3052 or the likes.

With a 2.3L stroker, built to the nuts, how much HP could I really expect on a big ass turbo, on pump gas??

I want to heavily modify the head as well, lifters and everything capable of 9K redline, 3 angle valve job, port, polish, etc. and a block capable of 550+ HP at the track on race gas. I've already got a full 3" exhaust and DSMLink. Would probably get 660 or 780 injectors and lose the 550's.

But what can I really expect out of 91 octane? Trying to figure out if it is worth it for all the money.

TIA

What kind of power could I expect with different injectors?

550?
660?
780?

Talk to HybriDSM. He recently went through that whole process and has all the research done.

If you are going to go with a 2.3L, why not just get the 4G64? 2.4L of 4 banger fury.

But don't expect anything on 91 octane. Yuck.

I have a bunch of webpages on the 2.4/2.3 buildup... I have a 7 bolt 4G64 from a Galant in my garage waiting for new internals that I found at a U-pull it ;)

These are about the 2.3:

These are about the 2.4:

Different places to get a 4G64, G64B, G4CS if you don't have a U-pull it around you:

Hope this helps let me know if you have any questions! :thumbsup

My info on increased displacement engines is likely covered in much greater detail by the links above.

As far as other engine build issues, like Jeff said, I just went through these exact issues last year and have a good amount of info to share depending on what you are looking to do.

As far as revving to 9k and beyond, get new OEM or upgraded valve guides (Bronze), new valves (I went with 1mm over sized Ferrea Valves), stiffer valve springs and light retainers (Crower springs and Ti retainers are great). The get the 272/272 cams and you're all set to rev to 10,500 if you're daring. 3g lifters are a must too to avoid lifter tick. Continuous angle valve job (better than 3 or 5 since the material for grinding is relatively limited on our heads), deck the head and have it cleaned and that will get you alot of flow and power.

As far as the bottom end, I was worried about the rod ratios and everything else as well as some clearance issues with the 2.3/2.4 engine. I simply went with the 2.0 bored .020" over with Wiseco 8.3's, Manley rods, and ARP fasteners (Clevite bearings too). Pretty simple bottom end I guess. Overkill certainly but also alot more forgiving to less than optimal tuning conditions.

Now, on to the injectors. Here is the asshole comment: If you are still considering 550's, sell the car and let it go to someone else. 550's will do nothing but facilitate your blowing your engine. Get the number 550 out of your head. If you're building a car that will be a track monster (500 bhp or above) also get rid of the idea of daily driving it. Forged engines are very tempermental and although you could likely drive it all year in AZ, why put that kind of wear on it. Back to injectors, I went with 850's. Why? Because at no point did I ever want to have to deal with possibily outflowing my injectors, running lean, and rebuilding the engine from the bottom up. Get huge injectors, stay out of boost on the road and get 400 miles to the tank. In boost with "spirited driving", you'll get 150 to a tank, but that's ok too. Also, 91 octane is going to be a huge limiter for you. On the street you'll have to turn the boost way down, and the car just won't make gobs of power without race gas. C16 on the track will be fine though.

As far as why I made these decisions, ask away and I'll try and give my point of view. It's a great time to be doing engine build work, but just take your time and make decisions you are comfortable with.

Brian at FP will tell you about their 2.3L Monster that made 500whp at 27psi on pump gas w/ the 3052. Since i had the 3052 turbo and was hitting full boost at 3400rpm, if you go stroker, go bigger then that turbo....3565(FP version of GT35R) or 3065 (Best Option(GT30R)).

Okay, very simple

Built block 2.3 or 2.4L, not like 600+ HP Capable, maybe 500
Fully Built Head
780 injectors
FP3052 Turbo
91 octane gas

i still want this to be my daily driver, so what can I expect HP wise out of that setup?

Thanks again.

Theres to many variables in this, there are plenty of people who have made over 500whp on 100% stock 2.0 revving to 65-7000ish, also, revving to 9k isn't going to do anything for you unless you have the means to flow air at that high of an RPM, 2.0's are for reving, 2.3's you don't have to rev as high to make more power. My friend has a 2.3 with a ported 2g head with 272/272cams and a magnus sheetmetal intake mani, scm61, and 980's and hes running 11.50's on pump gas all day.

Shep runs 8.7 on a 2.0 so I just see no need for a 2.3/4. That being said you can't ever compare anyones car to yours. Even if you have the same exact set up. It all boils down to who did the work and what kind of work did they do. And the most important thing is who is doing the tuning. I agree with hibrid in that you have to erase 550s out of your head and go strickly for 880's and better. You might never need that much fuel but you can never be to safe. 770's has gotten plenty of people past 500hp. Infact i know someone making 400+ on 550's but I just wouldnt do that to my car.

Good luck.

Well since the turbo only flows 52lb/min i am going to venture to say you can get 500whp max out of it....lol. Only answer to this is you can expect out of it what you put into it. Talk to Robert and/or Brian at FP about this....Since they did they exact same setup.
