8605, tapping for an egt probe Posted by soulcontroller, May-04-05 12:27 PM
ok, i was about to drill into my manifold to tap for my egt probe.
but then i was thinking, i dont know if the taps i have are going to be able to thread through the cast iron? is that going to be a problem for me? i dont want to make a 200 dollar mistake :o

if they dont work, you can use the "strap" method of holding the probe in place until you can find taps that work.

You can tap cast iron no problem as long as you drill the hole right for the tap. I tapped mine and it worked fine. I did end up having someone braze a bung on mine. The probe kept coming loose cause there werent enough threads to get it tight and keep it tight.

the cast will hold it fine, I do it every day at work. I did it to my mani and its holding fine. The tap will cut right through cast.
