7577, Problem with a 6 bolt swap Posted by Pyscodragon, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
OK I have had this 97 GST I bought from a old friend for a while ,It has been pulling timming since I had it.I think Ive finnaly traced it down to the CAS.My friend did a 6 bolt swap when he got crank walk 5 years ago.The problem was he crap rigged everything together including the wires to the CAS it looks like theyve been touching, Would that cause the massive timming pull ? And could it have hurt anything else?

You're in for some fun! Thats exactly why people should think twice about buying modded DSM's. It's not because they've been beat on, it's because you never know who did the work and how good of a job they did. Back on topic. Rewire it and see if that solves it. If they're touching, it can't be a good thing! I would also start looking around for anything else you might see. If the swap was done a few years ago and connections were just simply taped and whatnot, chances are by now, stuff is going to be coming unraveled and apart. Good Luck man!! What other mods are on the car? Knock could be causing the timing to be pulled...

It also has a set of split 5 star 18's on it with sportlines and a camber kit. but I dont think that has much to do with the timming pull. Ive tried a cheap AFPR that didnt do anything Ive changed out the injectors not much change Ive looked for boost leaks and exhaust leaks (I still have a slight one but not very much) and nothing but just a touch smoother runnig but no pullin power.

Im hoping this is it because when I first got it running it would intermidantly run really good. It would light the tires all the way through first gear (at 15 psi) and start to spin a lil in 2nd. (it also has a LSD too) but after driving for a while or if I shut it off it wouldnt do it anymore and have the timming pull thing.I tried to sell it a couple of times cause I was going nuts but I just stuck it in the garage at work and has been sitting for 2 months.

Well the crappy wire job was the problem its running smoother than ever now and pulls pretty good(for only 11 psi ). Now onto putting the fun stuff on :).
