7535, New Problem - Need to figure out before I drop in new motor
Posted by FlyinEsi, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
It just started this weekend. When I'm driving down the road all of a sudden a very violent vibration starts going throughout the entire car...I guess not violent, but very very noticable in the steering wheel, panels, floor board, and clutch pedal. If I keep driving the car it will go away, come back, go away, etc. There is no set time it will come or go, but I can't figure out why it is doing this...any ideas??

I had a wheel weight come off once and it did what you are describing. You'd think it would have shook all the time but it was kinda random. *shrug*

But once mine starts shaking it will do it at a dead stop idle too.

Does it lose power when it happens and are the balance shafts still in the motor?

I don't know if it loses power or not because I have never been hard on the accellerator when it is happening. And no, I don't have balance shafts anymore, but that would be a constant vibration if that were the case.

-Does it go away when you do something (depress the clutch)?
-Have you let it idle and looked under the hood (watch motor mounts, ect)?
-Where does it feel like it's orginating from on the car?

Found it. I had a wastegate leak last Thursday and it melted my A/C fan. It is all deformed and causing the vibration when the fan comes on.

That's a new one, well at least you figured it out relatively easy, and it is not a hard fix.
