7491, lower honeycomb removal Posted by daman_tbone, Apr-12-06 12:46 PM
i have read different articles on the web talking about people removing the lower honeycomb as a mod...is this the one right on the other side of your filter on the intake? and what are the pros and cons(if any). thank you

2GNT's don't have a mass air sensor. If this post is about anything other than a 2GNT, then you're in the wrong section.

If you are talking about that giant plastic thing (resonator), it's meant to somehow quiet the intake noise down.
I removed mine and had no problems at all. Take a drill and drill out that rivet and pull that thing off. Then take a hole saw (the bigger the better, and start cutting holes in you airbox (haha, holy airbox). I drove like that for YEARS and had no problems at all.
Going from that to an AEM short ram, the difference was negligible. I got the short ram because of the 60mm TB. I wish I never had, it made no real difference to me.

There is no metal honeycomb anything on a 2GNT intake.
Hacking the MAF is a 4G63 trick. http://www.dsm.org/how-tos/JFM/MAF_Mod.html

Your profile says that you have a 1995 Eclipse GS-T... which is NOT a 2GNT. I'm moving this to the 4G63 section, where you should be able to get an answer to your question.

Leave all the honeycombs in. It's hit and miss as to whether you'l have issues but for what you'll gain with them out, it's not even worth it. If you want a little better "flow". Make a home depot intake or buy a metal injen style intake on ebay for like $30-40.
